Do you have an alarm that could be causing the problem?

I failed to mention that besides horn beeping the hazard lights were flashing.anyhow I took the advise and removed the horn fuse, after connecting battery, the flashing started again. this continued for approx 20 seconds and the stopped for 5 seconds, and restarted again, this continued for about 4-5 times and then everything returned to normal. Thanks for your suggestions.

Sure sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm fitted (possibly no siren but just uses the horn).
Look under the steering column area and see if you can see a black box dangling there?

 Sorry about being late in answering your suggestion but I have been away for a few days,
I couldn't find the black box under my steering wheel, but I found in the papers I received when I purchased the car a small book titled \"FACTORY ALARM UPGRADE\", which I take it is the Alarm you referred to. After reading book I hope I will know what to do next time,
Thanks a heap.
