The NC doesn't have them. This annoys me no end.

Can I do anything about it, up to and including replacing the wiper stalk?

Can a similar mod be done to a NA?

Auto wipers are the best thing.
I've had cars with variable intermitant wipers, and all you do is constantly adjust them because the rain fall varies so much.

The auto wipers are just great.
Switch it on when you first see rain, and just leave it to the computer.
It even goes from intermitant, to slow speed and even high speed depending on how hard the rain is coming down.

There are instructions on Miatanet to modify the NB switch to convert it to variable intermittent. It's quite a straight forward job electrically but it involves finding somewhere to put the adjustable dashpot. I couldn't work out a way to do it so that it looked like Mazda put it there.

Maybe you could use aother dashlight dimmer switch for variable wipers?
Dunno about the nb but the na has it in the set of switches to the right of the steering column.

Good idea zoomzoom but on an NB8B there are no spare blanks left on the dash. The foglight switch takes up the last one.

for those of us who are non-smokers, how about the option of removing the ciggy lighter & using the vacant space ?

Thats a viable option crusin', but I use my lighter as a power socket.

Here are the NB instructions from miatanet if someone wants to have a go. All you need are 2 resistors and a pot.
