HID Conversion

Has anyone done a HID conversion in a NA6 and have you had any problems with the reflectors holding up to the heat?

Without trying to sound like an old fuddy duddy, the refletors holding up to the heat are least of your worries. What are you planning on doing to ensure thay your new super bright head lights are not going to blind oncoming traffic.....remembering that the NA headlights bounce around like Pamela Anderson at Wimbledon

Such is true. But they could easily be pointed down.

Yes true, but then they would probably less than ideal when using your high beam.

If I remember correctly you have a imported NA? If so do you still have a sealed headlights? If so I would suggest installing a good pair of 7inch headlights such as Cibie or Hella and install good globes. The Hella headlights (with globes) will set you back around $100.

I have the Hella upgrades in mine and they are a worthwhile investment.

They are bright enough so I decided not to put HID's in my MX5 as it is too blinding ...

If you want bling, go with the HID's - I saw a MX5 with one the other night along beaudesert road but from afar, it was quite blinding.

I may consider HID's for the 5 at a later stage however as I have hood risers, my concern is keeping the HID ballasts dry in rain.

It is an easy conversion - I have a set in my E34 BMW and there is probably less heat than with conventional bulbs.

No they arent sealed beams and it currently has Rabrig refelctors with some aftermarket bulb. They are ok however I have always HID lights

Going HID is the only way.

I have an imported Eunos Mx5 with the sealed beams...So I went shopping on eBay USA to find a set of replacement beams with H4 plugs....

I then bought a H4 HID kit and did the conversion....8000K, they are super-bright!!!

Overall, It was well worth it....And since there aren't many MX5s around the western suburbs of melb, my one stands out!!!!

I''ve also been passed (and passed) cops with no issues....If I ever did get pulled over, I have already rehearshed the comment that I would make to them..\"So I suppose you'd also be pulling over the Bimmers, Mercs and Euro cars???\" :lol: :lol:

Anyway, just be sensible about the HIDs, adjust it a little down...

My only issues were:

1. Since the new beams were from USA and glass, 1 broke on its way..So I did an insurance claim to the seller...Not long after, the 2nd one also cracked..so I did another insurance job via the seller...

2. make sure that your HID kit is the right kit! Some kits come with low beam halogen/high beam HID....Unfortunately, mine was the latter and I had to sacrifice my high beams....so, no high beams now!!!

Just letting you know HID is illegal on any car that doesn't come with them as factory

Bimmers, Mercs and Euro cars come with them from the factory


Reason why they are illegal
Because you need auto levelers and washers to be legal

Thats why if you look below some of these new cars headlight you'll see these things

Also I'm not sure if these are also in the requirement to be legal but I've noticed HID headlights have a straight cut off -------- whereas your normal headlights have elbow cut off \\__\\___

I had HID on my previous car and I had no problems

I have no problems with people having HID and have there lights lowered down so its not blinding oncoming traffic just be aware it is illegal and don't complain if you get defected[/img]

just wondering what made you ask whether i'd hold up to the heat?

Cause HIDs are cooler than Halogen
even tho you can get higher colour temps they are heaps cooler than halo

If you touch a halo headlight it would be warm to hot where as a headlight with hid it would be cool to warm

The car already has aftermarket reflectors. Came with it as an import
