The big white plug connects to the the external CD changer plug on the back of the head unit. You can then connect either of the included 1/8 phone plug or USB sticks to the connects2 thing. I think with the USB stick you can change tracks with the head unit controls but not if you are using the phone plug.

This is what I would like to install in my NC. I was hoping someone's done it already...

If that enables you to hook up your old mp3 or a thumb drive, the CD player will be redundant for me.
So has anyone done this?

I think this is similar to the AudioLink unit which I'mabout to order from MXParts.

No worries JBT, one \"how-to\" coming up.....
I'm just an old fashion, not up-to-date kind a guy, so it'll be interesting to see how I go. Got all my \"golden oldies\" ripped this morning and converted to mp3. Wow! I did it all by myself too. Took all morning.....so I must be getting the hang of it
Next step is to buy a USB thumb drive and create folders to store these mp3 files. Once I've hooked up the AudioLink thing to the head unit (Think that's what its called) I'll be able to play these mp3 files through the Bose system and even use the steering wheel controls...apparently. All the CDs can stay at home. Cool......
If MX5Parts can get their act together, I'll be installing it next weekend. Fingers crossed!!

Hey Franjae, I installed the Mazda factory one - got it posted from the US...great exchange rate. Easy to install, comes with instructions. Instructions & pics of removing stereo also at Miata.net forum

Do they do one for mp3 or ipod or compatible for both? I don't have an ipod, so I only need one for mp3 player/thumb drive. May I ask how much the Mazda one is?
I've read that you don't have to remove the head unit to plug in the aux plug, just move the glovebox lid and plug in by feel.
Be interesting to see how this Audiolink compares with the Mazda one. Any tips regarding the installation?

Hey Franjae, it was for ipod only, I'm sure you can prob get one with a USB (or other) from audioline,,,(prob try Dick Smith too..?) This one cost me about $150 incl delivery. I removed the whole unit, but you could easily just plug it in from behind...from memory its in the middle of the unit (from behind). Top right plug is the main one...top left is the aerial and bottom is the heater unit plug. The ipod plug just fits right in.
Better if you can just plug it in from behind...less chance of breaking or scratching something. Stereo is held in by 4 screws in front & one big one on the right side, need to get to it from drivers side footwell, get under the steering wheel, look left & there it is...haha, you'll need a torch...

A tip... find the COnnects2 adaptor you want (ipod, usb, mp3 player/auxin), get the code and then search ebay.
I got a mp3 connector (aux-in only) for about $60 delivered. Fools the CD changer input into thinking the feed from the MP3 player is from a CD changer.

Do you have the seller name? I did a quick search and found a few from "aerials4cars". Doesn't have any for the Mazda though
If it's that cheap I'd get one. If I was spending around 200 I'd probably get a new deck
