Hi guys,
I have just replaced the old head unit with the same factory stereo in a 2003 mx5. Only problem is, it asks for the security code before it allows me to use the cd player/radio. I have tried looking on miata.net but couldn't find the solution. Has anyone got the code?
Thanks in advance
Mike

If it is the original CD player from that car, and the first owner didn't change the code, then it will be the last 4 digits of your VIN. Only punch it in once, and make sure you type it correctly. Don't try again just for the sake of it and don't try random numbers, you'll only use up your 3 goes.
If you do \"permanently\" lock it, i've got half of the proceedure to bring it back to life.

just give mazda a call, I had this problem with my astra when the battery was removed for a short period of time, I didn't know the code so just called up the local holden service centre, took them a few mins to locate the code but it was all done over the phone and they ran me through the whole procedure, I'm sure mazda will be able to help just as much

Re:
I've got the WHOLE procedure, that works every time for the guys in the UK and Europe. Basically, it comes up with "ERR" wen you lock it (enter your code wrong 3 times), and Mazda's solution is that you have to buy a new headunit from them.sliq wrote:Bevan wrote:If you do "permanently" lock it, i've got half of the proceedure to bring it back to life.
what happened to the other half?
You can enter a set of buttons that lets you input an unlock code. I can get to this part, but the unlock code that works for the guys over there, didn't work on my unit. I may or may not work on yours.
Anyway, the ORIGINAL code for your head unit, if it's the same one that was installed in your car when brand new, and no owners since have changed the code, will be the last 4 digits of your VIN.

OR the 4 digits of the seller's VIN.
Just go aftermarket!
Don't bother with High end Nakamichi. You have a convertible, acoustics are non existant.
JVC do a usb mp3 player (Benny has it too). Put your ipod usb cable straight into it or a memory stick (charges the ipod too).
I picked mine up around a year ago for $240 from JB Hifi
They should be under the $200 mark now which is the limit of what I would spend.
