hey guys, i want to change the stock green backing light to a blue, the green looks out of place and some bulbs have blown on the air con section :( so yes, is there any write ups anywhere or has anyone done this before? are the lights fused in, or are they clips? ( i hope clips)

thanks

Croc, how much do ya love me?

I just so happened to stumble accross this a few weeks ago and your post jogged my memory. After much googling, I found this site: http://www.gatorpictures.com/Miata/RedLights/

Step by step instructions, including photos, on how to change interior lighting on an NB8A. He changed it to red but your can apply the same technique to converting to blue.

Have fun and post pics of before and after.

Cheers,
Bevan :)

I suppose another way to do it is instead of painting, you could try and find blue light bulb sleeves. :?

Ooer, nice. Doubt I could be bothered changing mine, but there's some good info in there on how to rip apart the instrument cluster.

CAUTION!!!

there is a green film behind the tachos so whatever light colour you want, it will still show green, but the odometer is orange without a coloured globe

so, anyone know who make custom gauges?

Group Buy Anyone :P

no idea :? i put some blue sleeves on my globes and they still come up green  there is a diffrent tone then the stock green but its not blue like it should be =/

edit, also tryed it with an uncoloured globe (that shitty amber colour) and it was green but you get the amber through the needles, thus is why i presume mine have a green film

Hehe no, they dont make them often, however for the right price (and number of sets) the guy I got mine from can do custom.....I'm considering redoing the SE's lights like this, but at the same token I like not being blinded by the guages haha

The trouble with the NB8A dash lights is the green color is built into the gauge faces.

Blue would probably be easier than red.

I've got some photos online somewhere that shows about 3 or 4 different solutions to get a red dash (including some expensive LED options).

The best ended up being those small colored rubber \"condom\" things that slip over the globes. They fade and need to replaced every year or so but it's an easy job, they're cheap and you can buy them from Repco/Supercrap etc.
