Wouldn't it just be a case of adding more fuel to the mix while at idle?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Well actually no, you need to go leaner to compensate for the hot, hence thing, air.

But that wont work, just setting it leaner, because then cold it will lope like it has race cams.

The ecu has code written in, and adjustment for, air intake temp. The issue he is having is the sensor for air intake temp is heat soaking, so its heating itself up, and the ecu no longer has the ability to make correct decisions regarding hot air fueling.

Fix the soak first.

Dann is spot on - and I'm way ahead of you mate - tapped the TB side of my FMIC in the end tank to get the IAT in the right spot last weekend.

My problem is now related to the MS's Gair code and MAT tables. There are several threads on MT.net dealing with the issue and I have used that info to correct my problem somewhat. The main problem is the MS2 code, which is totally messed up for MAT over around 25C. Go over this, and the MS Gair code starts pulling fuel from the mix hand over fist at a rate far higher than needed... and this code is not adjustable. The only way to deal with it is to compensate for the MS's failings by adding fuel in the MAT table...

I should point out that as far as I can tell, this is a problem unique to the MS2 (and to an extent, the MS3) as the earlier MS1 coded units had a more workable code for this that was adjustable (and could be disabled if required).

I have been playing with this today but temps were cooler today so no real chance to test it out. I have a few sample MAT curves to try and I guess we'll see how they work out together with different levels of MAT correction.

I've written a mod for ms2 that sorts out mat heat at idle, plus added AC support, pid CL lockout for clutch etc.

Check out MegaSquirtSanta on the MT site.

Alright Grant, three questions:

1. Where do I get this code? I don't see any links, either on mt.net or msextra...?

2. Do you have to run the beta 3.1.4 firmware with this?

3. Can I see your msq? I'd be particularly interested to see what your MAT curve and MAT correction settings are, PWM settings, etc.

The MegaSquirtSanta code is in closed beta - if you send me your email I'll happily send you the firmware to test/play etc.
In this specific post I call out to anyone reading that you can get a beta release to test http://www.miataturbo.net/showpost.php? ... stcount=43

My previous mod (with just IdleUp) is posted on MSExtra - http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 91&t=42485
This is well tested by a few folks (and myself) and just adds AC idle up (like MS3) and includes a Battery Voltage correction duty up for idle - both help compensate for idle surge or droop.

zossy1 wrote:2. Do you have to run the beta 3.1.4 firmware with this?
Yes, because ALL 3.x releases prior had seq inj bugs - if you are running releases below 3.1.4 and sequential injection then you should upgrade.

I don't run any MAT correction :o

I'm just learning how to tune, so happy to share tips and assist where I can - PM me your email and we can go from there.

For those running an MS2, we've been able to get a solid oem style idle with silky smooth AC and electrical load compensation so that when dríven, the car is now stock-like. No nasty idle droops or surges, just well mannered idle along with all the usual MegaSquirt tuning options.

http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 91&t=43370

The best part is that the official developers are taking all my mods into the base release!

Well done! I hope that DIY Autotune do something in return for you as the issues you've resolved have certainly had a negative affect on the PNP sales.

Cheers,
Danny

Nice work Grant!

Any idea when the base release is due out? Just wondering if I should wait, or flash your beta version now...

Version 2.2 of the mod was posted along with docs. This is based on 3.2.1 ms2/extra and contains a few ms3 features back ported.

Evening all,

Pardon the interruption to normal services. I'm thinking of getting a MS PNP for my '94 1.8. I had a look at a website that I had seen referred to here but see that they are yet to commence production of the new model for the 94-95 MX5s, and no longer have stock of the previous model. I have since found a Canada based site selling a PNP model for CAD$575

I have previously owned a turbo'd '91 with a FM/Link ECU, but for the new (to me) '94 I thought it was time to try something different.

Any thoughts on Stratifiedauto, or other suppliers?

Thanks
J
ps...my soldering skills are non existent....so it is PNP all the way for me.

Never heard of Stratified... and in any event the old MS1-based MSPNP is starting to show its age when compared to the newer units. If I were you, I would do one of two things:

1. Wait for the new MS2-based MSPNP which is due for release soon, and buy it direct from DIY Autotune.

2. Get on to miataturbo.net and touch base with either Reverent or Braineack, and have one of these guys build you a DIYPNP or an MS3 with a PNP harness.

If you are really wanting a MSPNP, check miataturbo for sale forums. They come up occasionally (though more often for the NA6s).
