Have you recently bought the car or had work done to it? Wanting to rule out that it's not been rewired to the configuration you mention in your first post.

Not directly related to your issue, I had the parking and interior lights not working, headlights and high beams were all good, I had other electrical issues seperate to this challenge, replaced the lv10 relay and tested the head light loom and found it was the stalk, ordered from eBay uk $25 + $23 shipping arrived in 10 days and is like a new unit,
The stalks can hide a lot of wear and tear

Yea I have done a few things recently, the ecu went bad about 2 months ago and had that serviced as well as swapping out the headlights with leds so I am visible at night. I bought the car about 10 months ago. Haven't done any re-wiring though, the leds were just plug and play. Headlights, high-beams, DRLs all work as standard. I will try the new headlight stalk piece in the next few days, do I have to remove the steering wheel to get to it?

Edit; The problem did occur a few days after installing the leds, I have tried putting in the original globes without success in resolving the issue. Whilst testing the LEDs the headlight stalk was used quite a bit and put though a lot of cycles to adjust the leds so that they did'nt blind incoming traffic so that could have caused premature failure.

Yeah, from memory it has a collar which the steering column goes through.

Hey guys Im a little bit stuck for ideas now :(. I tried replacing the indicator stalk and associated bits on my 5 without success. The lights still pop up immediately on start up. I have noticed that the problem has changed slightly though. All symptoms are same however apart from one, when I have the car on and have the light stalk turned up the whole way or on DRL then switch the stalk to off the headlights come down, then immediately pop back up. This makes me think that the issue was 2 problems rather than 1. And 1 has been resolved perhaps. Anyone got any ideas?

Remove the headlamp fuses and see what happens, it may be that the LED,s are not providing enough load and confusing the circuit.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Was the work done to the ECU at the same time as the lighting work?
Like Taminga16, think you need to try to isolate the issue, & given the above, think it's related to the lighting work done, or may be even the ECU work. Understand you put original globes back in, but was the lighting work globes only? Would reverse the all lighting work done to factory to see effect if any.
