Thanks for all your help, guys. And thanks to a poster here I've located an ECU with matching numbers to mine & arranged to buy it & the alternator from the same car. Hopefully they should get me going again.

Haha, yep, I am who you think I am. Good thing you got it home without the battery erupting though. We all assumed flat battery...

So I've obtained an ECU & immobiliser from a poster here which is great. It now seems from my auto electrician that i need the ignition key(s), key reader, ignition barrel, door lock(s) & boot lock from the donor car as they are all coded with the replacement ECU.
Can anyone confirm or deny this, please?

For an NB8B you will, but for an NB8A, first try changing over just the ECU. If it doesn't work it's probably easier to get a Japanese domestic market NB8A ECU, as opposed to the Australian (I assume) domestic market ECU you got from GM, as the other stuff may not be available to him or you.

Thanks 93, it's a public holiday here so I can't see the electrician til tomorrow. Where would I access a Japanese ECU as you suggest, please?

Hi guys,
Success at last! I got my green machine back last Friday. The boss electrician, who had been on holidays, had some experience with some model of Jeep with a similar problem - so apparently he installed a recon self-regulating alternator (an S & L type) & took a wire to the warning light on the dash. He had to install another new battery too, though it was cheaper than the RACQ one, thankfully.
So, I'm back on the road again. Thanks to all for your advice, I've learned a lot. AND I now have a spare ECU and alternator for an NB8A. Hmm...
Cheers,
DTH

Great to hear it's sorted, but it seems the computer guy the auto electrician had check the ECU was wrong - send him the bill for the replacement ECU you bought, or put them up for sale on here.
