Damn I don't care if that's the norm for haltec it's still an ugly mess. I would have expected them put it under the factory plate or fashioned a similar one and definitely not leave wires hanging everywhere like that.

Perhaps only to the extent that I was charged money for it, thus it was, by definition, professional.
Think the piece of what seems to be polystyrene is the best bit.

I'm going to try to put a version of the OEM bash plate over the top of it so passengers aren't putting their feet on the wires, connectors etc.
I might even fasten the ECU down onto something instead of it being held in place only by the carpet.

That ECU is HUGE!
Even my original piggyback Adaptronic e440 Select ECU was smaller than that (about the same size as the OEM ECU) and I made a bracket that fitted it right next to the factory ECU AND it all fitted under the passenger's footplate!
The new standalone Adaptronic e440 is about the size of a pack of cigarettes so is MUCH easier to fit anywhere which is important in an MX5 where space just doesn't exist.

Haltech have smaller ECUs which provide all the features you'd need so I think you've actually bought the wrong Haltech for an MX5.

I certainly wouldn't be happy with that physical installation but it takes effort to make a custom mount which takes time and most shops are all about turnover so they do whatever "works" and most customers never look to know any better. You should be able to make your own mounting bracket and fit the footplate over it since there's quite a lot of space under it - see http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=41091&start=70 for my original installation, it may give you some ideas.

As a side note, I installed the new Adaptronic ECU in the glovebox and figured I could get rid of the passenger footplate to give the passenger more legroom - unfortunately the carpet is moulded specifically for the footplate and looks shiite with the footplate removed so I still have the footpplate mounted :(

MINX has a Haltech which was fitted by Bob Romano'$, Haltech $pecialli$t$. They had his car for quite a while (3-4 weeks I think) before getting it right but it runs well and he's happy with it.

ie. Haltech are decent ECUs but you really want a Haltech specialist that also knows MX5s AND make sure you get the latest Haltech ECU that supports MX5 alternator control if you own an NB.
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!
