It would be interesting to hear about warmers from other cars. My Shkoda, for instance, has rear seat warmers that have never been used, so I might attack it. Mind you, how much are the pukka MX5 ones?

I was going to say what does the switch look like in the dash, and then I saw you put it in the console.

Well I just got back from spending the weekend in Lorne, cruising the great ocean road with the roof down. The seat warmers worked flawlessly and I couldn't be happier. The misses loved them and although it was quite cold out (they had snow in places not far from us) they kept us nice and toasty warm in the cabin. I even had to turn mine down a few times as I was overheating.

Overall I'm very glad I did the install and highly recommend them everyone.

Great write up. I'm terribly tempted. Tried a heated seat for the first time ever in the AE86 last weekend.

As I am one to feel the cold pretty badly, and I suffer from the occasional bad back spat... I found them fantastic. I never would have thought they would be a good thing.

Will be keen to give these a try at some stage.

Thank you Green Comet!
Very timely bit of info for me too! An inside the seat install tho obviously excellent is too complicated for me but I recently saw a TR7 with heated seat covers (from Aldi for $35 ? each). They looked good and the owner was v.happy with them. I'd like to get something like that for my NB8A. EBay offers a lot of choices.. one being "Waeco Magic Comfort Heated Seat Cover", $79.85 each.. bit pricey but may be worth it if they suit the situation? I'm wondering if anyone here has any recommendations for heated (seat) covers, please?

The seats aren't that complicated to do and would be a much nicer solution that covers.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I added seat warmers to my car about 8 years ago. I put the heating pad for the seat base in a similar position to the one in the picture. In hindsight if I ever did it again I would move the pad a bit further forward as I tend to get a warm butt but cold legs. If fitted where it is in the pics a lot of heat ends up going to the rear of the seat where you don't actually sit. Same with the seat back, I did a better job positioning them in my install. If fitted like in the pics a lot of the heat would go to the bottom of the seat back where you don't actually sit. Those pads seem to really limit where you can position the pads with the fixed cutout. The pads I bought could be cut in several different places which made positioning them in the correct place a lot easier, which might be something to think about when buying a heater kit. Being a noobie though I positioned the bottom ones in the wrong place. I highly recommend them though, they work great on a chilly day, especially with leather seats.

As Okibi says, it's not that hard. The first one will take a while as you suss everything out, the second seat will take half the time. I did both seats on my lounge room floor one rainy Sunday afternoon while watching the V8's race on tele. I used cable ties rather than the metal hog rings. It made the job a whole lot easier and they seem to be lasting well.

The reason mine are positioned where they are is because each pad has a small built in thermostat which would jab into your ass if they were positioned where you are saying.

Honestly I'm not having any problems with the warmer pads where they are, they heat up fast, work great and for the price I'm not complaining.
