well, the rates i am on now is postpaid, costing 8cents per sms and no monthly fee............ so it'd be about $10 at most for a year, considering my car is only a weekender

a lot, i would say, swings on where you park your car overnight and how often you take it out.
if i had deeper pockets, i would get the full shebang, considering the crime rate in my area is pretty high.

Sounds like I should get one too, I thought they were more expensive than that. Sounds cheap to me considering the whole GPS tracking thing. Anyone know an awesome installer in Melbourne?

Mines up on ebay cheap so jump in and grab a bargain
of course you can pay another few more hundred and get a GPS tracker to it as well
Mongoose has a new GPS tracker device but it doesn't send you a message to your phone when your Mongoose alarm chirps only when the alarm has gone off for more than 10 seconds or something....

I have a Ming StealStopper, fitted before I bought the car. It has some special features you might like to know about:
- windows go up when you shut the bonnet
- doors unlock immediately after being locked, so you have to lock them again with a key
- immobiliser function is independent of whether you want it to be immobilised or not
- immobiliser only works on starter motor, so you can always push start it anyway
- alarm occasionally goes off while driving
- alarm goes on for 5 minutes after you rip it out and throw it on the floor
- all wiring is viral
I'd recommend finding a really good, well recommended installer of a quality product and getting a solid written guarantee.
