Alarm - How to tap into hazard or parking lights

Postby crzymx » Sun Dec 07, 2008 3:34 pm

Its ok i found a 12v source. I used the 12v source in the hazard plug in the cabin fuse box. Now i just need to figure out how to wire into lights. Either parking or hazard. Could someone please help.

Constant power source wire to tap into.

Postby Okibi » Sun Dec 07, 2008 5:42 pm

Slack way is to use a vampire clip from the wire heading to the globe.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Constant power source wire to tap into.

I dont exactly understand. I found the hazard plud under the dash and tapped into the yellow and green wire, but neither worked. I have two wires for lighting, so i could possibly tap into both the left and right side.

Hooking up hazard or parking lights

Postby silvermiata » Mon Dec 08, 2008 5:05 pm

i have tapped into the park lights for my alarm as it was easier than tapping into hazard.. it it behind the dimmer switch and as far as i remember it is the green cable (check with the multimeter! ) now when the alarm flashes, all my park lights and the number plate lights do flash.. oh well..

Really? The wires come off of the same plug on the stalk. But hey long as it works!

Hooking up hazard or parking lights

Postby crzymx » Tue Dec 09, 2008 6:04 am

Ill have a look, i tapped into both active wires on the hazard plug but nothing seemed to work.

However i have two wires which would suggest them being attached to two seperate sources. However ill give this a go, if you could provide more detail that would be great!

did you manage to figure it out crzymx?

i have a problem of finding the wires to make my indicators blink for my central locking system... found the wires leading to the indicators, so tried that, but when i tried the left/right indicator all 4 lit up

perhaps someone might be able to provide some tips?

Yeah i did mate. dont know if i went over it or not, maybe in another post. But you need to tape into the back of the hazard light button. Theres some sort of bridge somewhere in the curcuit that doesnt allow them to be connected up anywhere else. Use a small flat blade to pop off the ring the do your best to get out the plug and get a hold of it. Might require an extra hand, or to take out your deck so you can get a hand up.... Use a test light to groung the pins, or poke into the existing wires cant really remember which one. You will know when either side starts flashing. Y"ou will have two wires, just tape both into both wired. Simple.. If theres anything else i can help you with done hesitate to ask.

Why don't you tap in at the wires at the indicator stalk?

Its not the easiest thing to do, plus i dont know if it will work, because i dont think the wires put out power to activate the flash, only to activate the relay which completes the circuit (in my case anyway). This is not really hard, if you know someone who is a bit savvy with electronics they should be able to help you test light the wires to see which is which.

The wires at the stalk work by grounding a wire. My alarm also works the same way, and so is directly able to ground the wires on the stalk which then in turn activates the indicators.

Very easy to do with a wiring diagram and removing the steering column covers.

well i had a go today, using a haynes wiring diagram. found the orange wire at the flashing unit which comes from the hazard switch, and you're right sabretooth, it works by grounding. which is kinda where my problem comes along: the wire from the central locking unit goes live when the indicators are supposed to flash. i tried connecting it anyway though didnt expect anything, but it actually sort of worked. its not right though, it made a horrible buzzing noise at the flashing unit (car is still ok) but the indicators lit up very dimly. obviously i won't settle for this!

don't suppose anyone's come across this, or has any suggestions?

Yes, my suggestion is to connect to the indicator stalk.

you can put a relay so when your alarm gives out 12+ it would complete the circuit for the gounding. if you have a jaycar/dicksmith , just ask someone there how you relays work..
