Why not do it yourself. If I did it anyone can. Even did the central locking and boot release

like northfield car sound will install for you

awesome down the road from work as well except i never knew northfield installs car alarms

will have to go gets some quotes :D

Northfield on Sandgate road did an install on my '97 MX5 (at the same time as my stereo). Basically I drove the car off the showroom floor straight to them. Did a neat install - no broken bits of trim and no failures or false alarms during the time I owned the car.

They installed an Alpine (as in the car audio) branded alarm - as recommended by Porsche for the 911 cabriolet, so who was I to argue. All black wiring, triple immobiliser, rolling code remote, battery back-up siren, microwave etc etc. The other option was a Brant alarm - so favored by the WRX crowd and standard fitment by Subaru Australia on STi's at one stage I believe (and they would know what a good alarm is - but don't get a keypad for goodness sakes).

well i sent an email off to Mongoose Brisbane and they will supply and fit for $700 and the windows can be hooked up to the other button on the remote

I rang northfield and they said it'd cost me $699 for the same alarm and $399 for an up and down window lifter kit or just a window lifter kit for half the price

so far Mongoose is the way atm but the cost is a bit high atm

Well someone at work reminded me that we call this guy that comes and install Mongoose alarms into vehicles and he could ring the guy and get him to give me a good quote

so i'll probably ring that guy and see what prices he chargers

BTW has anyone experience bad problems with mongoose alarms?

ok i got a pretty good price from this guy who can install me a Mongoose M60 for around $500 and $250 for the windows up and down

but he's unsure if he has to put a motor into the drivers door for the central locking to work

but it'd cost me an extra $50 if he does

which totals to $800 if he needs to put a motor in

but I originally had my eyes on the M80 with triple immobiliser where as the M60 has dual immobiliser

according to him Australian Standards require just dual immobiliser so the m60 is fine

but he can put in triple immobiliser if i really want it for an extra $50 or i can go the m80 for an extra $100

is it worth doing that or should i pay the $100 and get the m80

they will have a shock sensor, microwave sensor

I have to ask what is the point in paying $250 for making the windows go up and down? It just seems pretty expensive...

well the point is say i leave my car and i forgot to put the windows up i can just press one button and it just lifts the windows up or another example is when i get home i park the car on the driveway i leave the windows down so it doesn't get hot inside and if starts to rain one click and the windows go up without me having to walk outside and get wet and also hold 2 buttons to lift the windows

believe it or not but thats cheap i mean CHEAP!

i got quoted about $400 elsewhere but thats only if i do it at the same time as the alarm

Hmm, ok. I guess it has some uses. It still seems terribly expensive (even if it is cheap). Still I think there could be better ways to spend $250 on your car. Would be an interesting feature to have none the less.

I really don't like discussing security features of individual cars on a public forum.

ok so the day has come and my car is being fitted with the alarm

I'm doing it thru a guy who is mobile and does the alarms for customers who want them at my work

its almost done and he's hoping to finish it off tomorrow or saturday

Anyway my question is for those of you who have an alarm/immobiliser installed
where did you put the blinking led?

use one of the blank switch panels your car is sure to have, not only can you easily replace it if you happen to pull the alarm out for whatever reason, but they are usually quite visible from outside the car, acting as a deterrent 8)
