Richard, have you still got the stock headunit in your car, and if so is it the one that has 1133 on the front in very small numbers near the display?

I finally got around to checking and my headunit does have 1133 on the headunit. Also they have shipped the ipod adapter so I hopefully should be able to tell you how it works by the end of the week.

Ok I received the ipod adapter yesterday which I thought was pretty fast shipping since it was only sent last friday. as mentioned I bought it at the rpm store where it was $125 US for the adapter plus a extra $15 US for the shipping. Ha Ha I think I broke my car trying to pull the headunit out. I think I damaged some of the electrics and until I get my car fixed the ipod adapter is sitting happily in its box.

Ok its in and everything is working.

Firstly it works very simply you press the CD button twice and the ipod is connected and starts playing. you skip tracks just like you would with a normal cd. When you switch the car off then back on playback resumes from the same position. The sound quality is much better than one of those FM modulators and it tucks away hidden in the glove box.

The only recommendation I have is that you make playlists otherwise it plays the songs alphabetically by album so if you want to play a track near the end you have to press the next button a thousand or more times (depending on the size of the ipod and how many songs on it of coures).

I havn't tried controlling it from the ipod yet but might try that next time I'm in the car. It also charges the Ipod at the same time. I also havn't tried using the line in line that also comes with the adapter either.

Also Big thanks to mxMania who fixed my problems up and helped me install the ipod adapter. For those who havn't been there they where very friendly and very helpful. After pulling half my car apart with them, we found the easiest way to install this adapter would be to just pull the glovebox off (very easy just a clip) and reach around and plug the adapter straight in.

It ended up being a blown fuse. I checked the fuses for everything that was wrong with the car but it was a unrelated fuse that was blown. Have no idea what caused it tho.

Sounds good, just wondering if you (or anyone else) is aware if there will be any issues fitting to a 2001 NB? The website says 2002-2005 and I'm not sure whether there will be any difference.

I think the difference has to do with when mazda added the modular headunit in the majority of their cars (not just the mx5) in 2002. So if you have the modular headunit found in a nb8b then there should be no problems. I'll see if I can find the link with the picture of what the headunit looks like.

if your headunit looks kinda like this one from a se (mines black and doesn't have the bose logo on it) then it should work

yeah mine looks like that one (in black and only a single cd). When you say modular, do you just mean the whole stereo looks different to the one they previously installed, or was there some slight difference that is not visible from the face of it?

Just want to make sure i don't flush $150 down the toilet.

Modular is just what they where calling it on the other website. I think it might have to do with the fact that its a stock part that was put in different types of mazda cars. I'm pretty sure you should be right though
