Ive struggled with this immensely.
when it come to car electrics I'm a retard.

I'm not braking new ground. Its all out there.Just not written in basic Engrish....or at least English I could understand. Or not written for a retard that has no electrical knowledge whatsoever and lacks the basic understanding most forums expect you to have when doing electrical stuff.

All the NA guys know the CAS. Right? its located at the end of either the Intake or exhaust cam on the NA's

Its that thing at the end that used to be a Dizzy.....150,000,000 years ago.

It triggers spark. It uses the crank & Cam angles to tell the Coils to spark. .....or something.

The CAS between the NA6 & NA8 look different physically but are interchangeable on cars.
However the internals are different.
nowadays you go n ebay & purchase the electrical bits to replace the old electrical bits so your CAS gets working again.

but the internals are not interchangeable. They are very different.

so anyway...

Ive been doing a 1.8 into an NA6 chassis for almost 12 months.
In the instructions you get told....the easiest thing is to take your CAS & retro fit it to the 1.8. In my case this was fitting it into a 99 NB8A motor. It doesn't come with a CAS.

It comes with a
4 point Trigger wheel
Crank Angle sensor
Cam angle sensor

Retro fitting those onto a B6 is not going to happen. But its easy to re-install those sensors on my BP-4W engine.

But it needs splicing & re routing some wiring as some mechanical stuff like replacing the trigger wheel, replacing the aftermarket cam sprockets to suit the Cam Angle sensor.

I find the mechanical part easy.

Basically The Cam Angle sensor & Crakn Angle sensor replace the cas.
the wiring to the cas has to be extended to both sensors

The CAS has 4 wires

SGT is a signal wire
SCG is also a signal wire.
12 volt
Ground

Basically the instructions around the net are this.
CAS:

The OEM 1990-1997 CAS has 4 wires. One wire is +12v, one wire is a sensor ground, and there is a signal wire for the crank position and a signal wire for the cam position. You will need to cut the factory plug off and extend the +12v and ground wires to each of the NB sensors. The cam signal wire will get routed to the camshaft sensor on the top of the valve cover, and the crank signal wire will get routed to the crankshaft sensor located near the harmonic damper. This will bring the appropriate cam and crankshaft patterns along the OEM harness into the ECU, and all of the other changes necessary will happen in the firmware/software of your ECU.

12v (extend 90-97 wire to both 99-05 sensors):
90-97: White/Red
99-05: White/Red

Cam (extend to Cam sensor only):
90-97: yellow/blue
99-00: grey/blue
01-05: grey/blue

Crank (extend to Crank sensor only)
90-97: white
99-00 grey/red
01-05 violet/white

Ground (extend to both 99-05 sensors)
90-97: black/light green
99-05: black/blue

But it assumes that you've snipped off the connectors off the harnesses from your donor engine

I wasn't so lucky.

but it is really basic
4 wires on the cas
3 wires on each of the sensors.


the sensors all need a
signal
12V
Ground

except which wires go where? on the sensors?

I found generally

signal goes in the middle
12 V & ground on either side.

It seems that maybe there is even a standard on how to wire these 3 wire connectors where goinmg from left to right is
1, 2, 3
1 is 12 V
2 is signal
3 is Ground.

Unsure maybe someone who know about electrical stuff can confirm or deny this

You can put the cas onto the exhaust cam on the BP4w head.

Just remove the brass plug, install cas.

Yes thats what I originally did Dan,

it failed. T then got the internals for a Cas....but got the wrong one....for the NA8

then it was decided to get the 36-2 trigger wheel & install the NB8A sensors which I had from the BP-4W

still sourcing the connector for the Cam sensor....so if anyone has one....happy to pay market price.

if I need to get one from the USA its like $10 with like a shitloads for postage.
