New battery options in Melb

Looked at the measurements of the Supercharge batteries and they don't fit the battery tray.
Anyway, I've found on fleabay the Power Crank NS40ZLCM795 for the MX5 1989-2005 for $119. Located in NSW (free delivery), no exact measurements/photos (none online). Has anyone tried this battery for an NA?

They must have changed the size as the Supercharge Gold MF40B20DF I was thinking of in an NA8 sits in its battery tray just.

I will remeasure but who knows, I may have a non-stock (smaller) battery tray.

There's a edging just below the top of the battery that forms the longest & widest points, which would make it just under a 1cm shorter & narrower at the base if that helps. This one appears to be using the standard battery tray as the gold coloured locator bracket for the tray is bolted into place, the battery tray just fits within it, & the battery itself is sitting flat. But as you say perhaps your NA8 has a smaller tray.

Slightly OT, but if anyone wants/needs a good condition breather for the battery, I have one from the 2003 that I have parted out. Free, you pay the postage if not picked up.

Just got the cheaper Century battery (LS not LSX) at the Autobarn sale (down from $159 to $125).
No vent nipple, but they gave me an adaptor to plug into the battery. Haven't fitted it yet but it looks like it will need a longer battery rod.

Installed. Works fine.
Fits into tray, terminals fit perfectly. Longer rod needed as battery is taller. Plugged one breather hole and added a vent tube to other. About 1cm clearance to the inside of the body (I think that's normal).

Unrelated to this thread I purchased a new battery this morning.

Century NS60LS MF

Taller than the standard Panasonic, so needs a longer bolt for the holding strap, but other than that fits fine.

Worth noting, it has ports for the vent tubes, just no barb fittings pre installed .

Dude, I'm describing the same battery.
Guys at Autobarn gave me a vent fitting and tube after I explained it to them. I plugged up the second hole.

Yes and I've now got he same one, confirmed what you said, and have added my own notes on its fitment to an NB, which has a different method of holding the battery compared to NAs.
