I have bought myself an Android Double Din head unit from ebay for $330.
Its running 4.xx android, runs a decent resolution and has OK hardware specs
its runs smooth, and you can install any android app as you would a phone/tablet.
I installed navfree and racechrono... they can use the included gps.
its responsive and smooth.
looks the same as this

That actually looks very decent! Do you happen to know if it has USB OTG? Just so I can hook up my Megasquirt to it

it runs a custom launcher. but you can install your own, which i have done.
Pretty sure it supports OTG, think you might find more info on xda-developers website.

Re: EBAY Double Din Headunits....
On the weekend I installed an EONON GA5151W into my 2005 SP23, it's an Android 4.4.4 unit with NO DVD player since I'll never use it (the CD player in Gina's Pioneer head unit has never been used). See http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/Android-Car-GPS/Mazda/GA5151W.html for more details on this particular unit which is specific to my Mazda 3 model.
You can see my installation here: http://www.mazda3forums.com/799-introductions/703857-eonon-ga5151w-install-into-2005-sp23.html

The unit came with NO instructions and my biggest hurdle was getting the OEM LCD display to work with the unit and my steering wheel controls (if my Mazda 3 was 2006 or later I wouldn't have needed to deal with any of that and everything would have just worked by plugging the EONON harness into the OEM harness).
I'm really impressed with this unit, even the audio is much better than my OEM unit (I believe that was a Clarion Head Unit - after 10 years of technology improvements, it's not surprising that the Chinese unit sounds better).
With the video screen (800x480 WVGA; would like this to be higher but that would increase the cost), GPS antenna, reversing camera and Android OS it adds an amazing range of features to the car (eg. TomTom Go or Sygic for navigation, Torque for OBDII data, bluetooth and WiFi connectivity to my Android phone) and I still get to keep my steering wheel controls. The unit also comes with AVIN connectors so I could hook in an external video player or connect it to an in-vehicle camera too.
The unit is much lighter than the OEM head unit too which is a good thing for MX5s.
Quality-wise it's nowhere near as good as Pioneer/Alpine/Kenwood/JVC/Clarion/Sony/... but in an MX5 do you really care, audio quality in a convertible will never be great - the EONON unit is far cheaper by comparison and is loaded with features.
I'm interested to see how this unit holds up since I DD the car to/from work so it will get used a lot. If it has no issues, I'm definitely going to put one in Gina.

That's where I found most of the disparate (and sometimes completely wrong) information needed to install the head unit since it came with NO instructions. Much of the information was probably intended for older units and not applicable to the GA5151W so I consolidated all the required steps in one place for others to follow.
The attached post was my first ever post there.

Re: EBAY Double Din Headunits....
I check out eBay from time to time and this blew me away:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-genuine-Mazda-Satellite-Navigation-Map-SD-Card-Mazda-2-3-6-CX3-CX5-MX5-/252325934451
WTF: A$500 for a genuine Mazda Satellite Navigation Map SD Card ???
My Android head unit and camera + Sygic maps cost less than that.
I have a friend with an Audi Q5 who simply buys the latest TomTom device every 2 years because it's less than half the cost of Audi map upgrades for his in-built navigator.
