Megasquirt query -Tuned map on 11d but I have later firmware
Apologies in advance as I know very little about Megasquirts.
Have been slowly building up my supercharged NA6 and now the only thing holding me back is the tune.
I have a PNPMS2 with lateish firmware.
My kit was supplied from a forum member with a "tuned" map but it was made on old 11d firmware.
How do I go about getting the data from my map onto the new firmware? I mean, I'm not sure how I even open the map and see the settings?
I really want to use this map as a baseline and won't be getting to installing my innovate wide band for at least another couple of weeks, so figure this map will get me going.
Or do I retro grade my firmware to 11d (using a crappy 32 bit laptop) then load my tuned map and hope that the current version of Tuner Studio (From my 64 bit laptop, as it wouldn't work on the 32 bit one) communicates with the 11d firmware?
I'm so confused by all of this and am even happy to manually input the settings from my map into the new firmware, if only I could view the settings in my map.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm hoping to continue working on it when home tonight.
Thank you very much,
Steve

Save the tune you've got and then upgrade the firmware, then reload the tune and it should convert all the settings to the new firmware but it's still best to check over everything just in case. I'd strongly recommend not running it without a wideband installed as you can't be 100% sure that tune will be safe for your engine.

If you use a tune who's signature mismatches your ecu firmware you are guaranteed to get a dozen or more errors and a car that you won't be able to guarantee will work properly.
Download a firmware that suits one if the manufacturer supplied base maps, not some dude who's car was similar. Then fit a wideband, and load the manufacturers basemap on.
Then follow the MSpnp instructions.

Thanks Bart.
Are you saying I should put 11d firmware and then load the tuned map and that will work with current version of TS?

138 errors to be precise.
I know far from ideal but I'm trying to get the car moving until tuned properly.
I don't want to have to tow if at all possible.
So how can I do this to at least get me going?

Re: Megasquirt query -Tuned map on 11d but I have later firm
They run on the base map, that's the point of the base map.
Its just not tuned for boost, and if you have different injectors it will need the 'required fuel' changed, and the 'injector dead time' changed to match your injectors. Assuming OEM inlet manifold, throttle body and internals, and you don't boost it, it will drive and probably be safe. Making sure the fuel is not too rich or too lean is what your wideband is for.
If you can't afford the time to learn at your own pace you need to be able to afford professional tuning.

Thanks Dann. I understand this to be good advise, just not the outcome I was hoping for.
Also happy to pay for tuning but imagine I would be using some boost (although at light throttle) to get to the tuner.
Looks like I'll have to change the cat for my 100 cel with bung, so I can setup the wideband. Have been told that the bung should be pre-cat but this is what I have.
May I also trouble you to advise who in Sydney could tuine it properly?
I really wanted to bring it to you but there is no way I could drive to Newie off boost the entire way.
Thanks very much for your time, I'll take a chill pill and do more research
Steve

I couldn't tell you who would tune ms your way.
There is an ideal location for the wbo2 but post cat will work.
If the AFR is <12:1 in boost and you drive very gingerly you will be safe to move the car under its own power .

Call me crazy.
But if it's supercharged, and you want to drive with no boost, why not just do one of two things.
1: Remove the charge pipe from the charger and put a filter on the end.
2: remove the belt to the charger
Removing a belt probably won't be great, not sure the engine can draw air through a stationary charger impellor, but just bypassing it temporarily will work fine, just take the belt off so the charger isn't blowing air all around the engine bay (not that it matters that much)
edit:
Should probably add that i've got no experience with forced induction, or ECU tuning stuff.
THe only things i've tuned have had one cylinder.... which makes synchronising stuff easy

I'd just start off with a base map for your car and work from there but you'd be stupid to try and drive it without the wideband installed since you'd have no way of knowing if it was running too lean.

Re: Megasquirt query -Tuned map on 11d but I have later firm
Thanks for the responses.
OK, so I've accepted that I need to start from scratch.
Plan to do in the following order.
1. Fit cat with bung
2. Setup wide band
3. Ensure I have the latest firmware installed (with coil pack disconnected)
4. Load na6 base map
5. Set base timing
6. Calibrate wide band
7. Set afr and auto tune
8. Drive to tuner and give them my credit card.
Would this do the trick or should I be doing something different?

I suggest the correct firmware for the available OEM basemaps

I've found a Sydney based tuner that has a good rep. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Dann,
I now understand what this means, per the following link.
http://www.diyautotune.com/diypnp/docs1 ... mware.html
I would have found easier if starting from scratch, with no firmware or maps installed.
Apologies for the silly questions. Am learning.. just slowly!
