Very annoying Strange noise from air vents/center console.

Postby onmyzephyr » Tue Mar 25, 2014 5:45 pm

Hi i'm new to the forum . I just bought a NA 1.8

There is this very strange whooshing noise coming from my centre console and i cannnot figure out what it is??
the best way of describing it is like plastic blowing around in the vents and i've checked, does not seem to be anything there .

It happens in all gears some a bit louder than others after 1500 rpms approx.

Any clues ?? has anyone else ever had this problem. Its just irritating especially when i drive with windows up.

is it a water sloshing sound?
If so your coolant is low and that is air bubbling around.
Bleed the system and it'll go away.

There are heaps of trees where our dealership is and leaves from them get bewteen the windscreens and the bonnets of the cars all the time. Unless cleared every day, we sometimes get customers telling us the car made an odd nose on test drive. Perhaps you've also got a leaf in the heating/cooling ducting somewhere?

I had a noise in the fan box in my NB, it got louder but did stop when the car was filled with leaf litter and dust. I do seem to re-call reading an instruction on clearing the fan system (after the fact).
Greg.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Thanks for all the replies guys( I thought no one would :( ) I am going to try everything suggested including the bleed and clean.

Already ordered new shift boots, it doesn't really sound watery more of a air like sound .

Hopefully new boots to fill the hole will reduce a whole lot of different noises.
