NB head unit install

Postby spikes » Tue Apr 23, 2013 1:01 pm

Hey guys, I'm a little confused as to how this works. I've noticed certain kits to have a flush aftermarket head unit install where it includes some brackets and a bezel.

But then there's so other guys that install an aftermarket HU using the metal cage and bezel provided with their HUs and it seems too look the same.

I'll be installing a single DIN head unit and just using a stock NB8A DIN pocket.

Any other NB guys who have installed a head unit mind giving me some insight and possibly photos of the install?

Fitted using the metal cage & bezel that comes with the unit. The cage just has the metal tabs bent around the plastic fascia to hold it in place and the HU just slides in and locks in. I just have to use small screwdrivers either side to unlock & slide it out. I've never found the weak metal "tools" they supply any good at pulling the units out.

The HU doesn't move or bounce around at all.

I've only ever fitted head units this way ...

My Double-Din Pioneer head unit came with 3 mounting options. I tried them all in order of ease-of-install, and settled on the "cage"" which I initially thought was the hardest option. The "cage" produced the most factory-like finish since it allowed the head unit to sit flush.

As KevGoat mentioned, the "cage" has a lot of metal tabs that can be bent against/around OEM points to hold it firmly in place and it's not that hard to fit.
