Interior Trim Respray

How do people think this will look painted on the tombstone, centre tunnel and various other small black trim pieces of a NA6 black interior?

Buy the cans and do a trial spray.
The metalcast smoke colour sounds interesting. Personally, I've always been a fan of black interiors with silver or dark silver highlights and that looks like it'll be it.
However the black option would be obsolete i think as the plastics are already a satin type/non reflective black.

It's only a few easy steps to do the paint work, and worse comes to worse, if you choose you dont like the colour, sand it back and respray with satin black to make it appear stock.

I think the metalcast smoke would be an excellent finish for some interior highlights. I'm a big fan of shadow chrome or dark silver to accentuate a dark interior (think new Audi's).

You are barking up the wrong tree I reckon. Its been shown a number of times before but if you want to rejuvenate the trims or mouldings the right product seems to be vinyl spray die like VHT. If you want to try a paint it will not work as well and it could lift or peel. If you want custom colours or appearance it will limit its appeal. The car makers use middle of the road appearance for function and acceptance. A local neighbour dyes his standard poodle pink and somebody probably said go for it mate.

Good point. The metalcast smoke paint since it's trying to replicate a metal finish, will probably only work best on smooth or shiny trim pieces - air vent rings, door handles, switchgear surrounds,etc. Larger interior pieces like the tombstone, centre console or dash have a porous finish, so vinyl dye will come up much better on them.

Interesting thought but this paint is only used on chrome and silver metal to get the shadow effect. May work over silver paint but def not on black.

If you look at the ad in the OP's link, the following is stated: "Provides dazzling anodized colour effect over chrome/shiny metal surfaces".

Don't know if I'd use it on Vinyl.

There are plenty of dark silver finishes available. Prepsol the parts, 1000grit sand of as much as you can and rinse off, prepsol again, air dry, paint. Give it a go. My previous car had zero issues with paint peeling off or longevity of any sort on my previous car for 7 years. Just make sure any heavy traffic area plastic (ie, bits you'll be rubbing more often, ie, around the gear stick and maybe vents) are sprayed with a number of coats and then a clear. Just be sure to stick with the same paint system - enamel base finish with an enamel clear, acrylic base use acrylic clear. Its an easy afternoon job as long as it's warm enough and sunny. : )

If my car doesnt sell, I'll first see If I can rejuvenate the stock black. If not, I will just respray with the stock colour and put carbon fibre trim kit on top to keep it neat and tidy.
