Its unlikely that direct iProduct cables will become popular especially now that the iPhone is dying in the market.
Also, direct USB and Aux are both easier to use.

Lol, don't delude yourself. iPhones are hardly dying. The iPhone 5 sold something like 5 million units in the first week of sale.
Apple are losing marketshare in the smartphone sector, but they are still selling record numbers of phones. That tells me the entire smartphone sector is exploding in popularity, not that the iPhone is a dying product.

Re: New mobile phone laws - THE BLUETOOTH/AUDIO THREAD
Up until 6 months ago every company was rushing iPod direct connect into every product, now its bluetooth and wifi. its not about catering to 1 product anymore.
The iPhone 5 sold 5million, it was forecast at between 8 and 10 million sales, and where as once upon a time iPhone had over 50% of smartphone market share it now has a lower market share than Samsung alone, let alone all of the other android companies. Compared to 5 million iPhones sold in the first week or sales, Sansung had sold 9 million S3's via preorder before they were even released.
Its no longer gaining popularity and is infact losing out market share, just like motorola did when it ran out of ideas, and Nokia before it. The iPhone hasnt any major updates in years and the market has caught on that current iProducts are last gen compared to other products available.
Anyways long story short dont expect that the worlds electronics companies are still rushing to get iProduct specific connections into their devices.
Just go with bluetooth anyway its much better.

Re: New mobile phone laws - THE BLUETOOTH/AUDIO THREAD
Manufacturers were putting 30 pin dock connectors in their cars because there was absolutely no worthy competition in either the portable music market or the smartphone market. Four years after the iPhone was first introduced, Samsung finally managed to get their act together and make a decent phone.
I don't care that manufacturers are no longer putting connections in which only work with Apple products. It was a stupid idea in the first place. Technology changes rapidly, and so it quickly became that the plugs weren't able to fully utilise the features offered by the iDevices. If they just had a USB port from the start, all the functionality could have been retained, but with compatibility for other devices as well.

droo wrote:I ended up with a 6" lcd double din unit. Fits flush to the NA console - (that was the main reason i didnt go a 7" panel.)
It also has real world buttons and a volume knob which i find much more immediate and ergonomic then push button volume controls.
It has an option to copy the phone's address book to itself so it will show who's calling from your contacts list.
Plays bluetooth music (albeit without showing track names unlike my earlier 7" in my 4wd).0
The main selling point about it for me is that it also reads and plays music from iPhones (and charges them) via a dedicated dock cable.
Too many of these units still don't offer that ability.
Jules, how is the JVC you have? I ended up giving mine away, very disappointed with it, as it kept forgetting settings to auto-connect to my iphone, as well as it's "dual" ability to tie in two phones *never* worked, and it also had issues playing cds of burnt music (mp3 & audio)
G'day Droo,
I wonder if you could tell me what brand and model you bought and where from. I'm looking for a unit for my recent purchase.
Cheers, Matt

Re: New mobile phone laws - THE BLUETOOTH/AUDIO THREAD
Back on topic
Most headunits these days have a USB port at the back for your ipod cable.
Thus you can use a new "insert stupid name for new iphone cable" if you have a iphone 5 ect.
So no problem
The 2nd 2 din GPS unit has a model with an external mic coming on late this week
For $300, it might be my solution....
Ipod connectivity
Bluetooth (audio streaming and phone book)
GPS maps (handy even if they are cheaper maps than the big brands)
and Reversing Camera..... not a necessity in a little car but makes going backwards Safer.

Re: New mobile phone laws - THE BLUETOOTH/AUDIO THREAD
I have the BlueAnt Supertooth 3 and its worked flawlessly with my iPhone 4 and 5. At pairing itll download the contents of the phones contacts so when someone calls you itll either announce the number or the Name of the caller.
Other features:
The speaker is very loud
Compatible with SIRI and iPhone voicemail app
Auto standby when the Bluetooth connection is broken for more than 15? mins.
Auto pairing occurs when it detects a vibration (when you get in the car and close the door)
Excellent range. Ive made calls from a cafe across the street and wondered why i couldnt hear the person only to realise the call was happening from within the car.
Can be had for under $100

Re: New mobile phone laws - THE BLUETOOTH/AUDIO THREAD
2 problems
1. I dont have sunvisors (they get in the way of my roof latches )
2. leave your roof down and there is a good chance it will go missing.
That is why i am opting for something more permanent.
Ill prob give this GPS screen thign a go.... as its pretty cheap, offers heaps of features (ipod/bluetooth/gps/camera and DVD player... not that the last is needed)
