I was wondering if anyone know what speakers fit the MX5SE? I would like to get speakers that would just bolt into the factory mounts. Also does anyone have any recommendations on what speakers to get etc.
Cheers

Re: SE Speaker Upgrade/Size
Sorry to bust your bubble, but not going to happen. The stock speakers have some funky plastic mounting surrounds that act as water shields too. You will need to hack these to suit, (id highly advise using some kind of water shield). I got some mdf spacers and glued them into the plastic surrounds. Then screwed the 6 1/2" speakers into the mdf. Coaxial speakers will be easier in terms of install but component (separate tweeter) will provide better sound quality at the cost of having to mount the tweeter too, somewhere near the top of the door will do. I made brackets and mounted them behind factor tweeter location.
I would also suggest to sound deaden the doors if you want any kind of quality, the MX5's are not the best for rattles, you could probably get away with it for under $100 using jaycar stuff. A cheap set of speakers with deadening will sound better than a set double the price most of the time.

I would also recommend sound deadening your doors.
I dont know about NB's but when i upgraded my head unit and speakers in my NA my doors rattled really badly from the new power. Plus it wasn't anything crazy, no amp, not huge power. After i installed dyno matt the rattles were gone plus it sounded better.

The doors fit a 8" speaker just fine if you remove the plastic spacer.

Re: SE Speaker Upgrade/Size
I fitted these 8" components (Focal is200). The woofer lined up perfectly, and the tweeter just needed to be fixed to the old tweeter housing (also required your standard soldering etc). You do loose the plastic water guard, so I used an 8" foam baffle I found on ebay and modified it into a guard for piece of mind. Was a massive upgrade over stock.
Edit: I have an 01 NB8B
