Remote central locking stopped working

Postby hamx5ter » Wed Oct 13, 2010 6:59 am

Ok, i've got an NB8A with the factory remote & alarm. This is the one with the three blue buttons in different sizes.

It doesn't lock / unlock the doors anymore.

I noticed over the last couple of months that the range over which the remote worked had dropped substantially, but now, no un/locking at all.

I've got a spare remote and tried that one - same result, so it can't be low batteries on the remote.

Both locks work when the key is used or if the driver's door is locked manually from the inside, so it seems the actuators are fine.

Arming / disarming the remote turns the alarm on / off, so no battery issue (although it does look weak).

Any ideas?

I'm no electrical guy so i'm just trying to see if there is some simple troubleshooting to be done before i take it to the shops and pay up.

Have you tried asking an alarm-specialist to recalibrate the frequency between the receiver in your car and your remote(s)?

Perhaps the 'secondary' battery that supports your alarm system is running out of juice?

Ok... this is an update for the Seekers Amongst Ye..

(also see http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=44405&hilit=+door )

Finally thought I'd give this a go.. was easy enough..

Pulled the door trim off.. 3 pop-off rivets and 3 screws, disconnect tweeter wire.
Replace the faulty actuator and replace with replacement jobbie from jaycar... they looked identical.
Test it works before closing up... It does!
Pop door trim back on.

Easy enough... 15 minute job.. only took me 2 years to get to it.
