Hi my new Pioneer DEH-1350 did something strange last night. While driving home the radio suddenly cut out. I changed the source from AUX to radio and then it cut in again.
Later it seemed to do something similar with the other sources as well but just not as long. When I got home I discovered that the clock and all channels had been reset to factory. The time on the clock indicated that the reset happened the first time when it cut out.
For people with an electrical background what is the first thing that comes to mind. What most likely just happened. Was it power, or ground that got disconnected or does it seem like something contained within the unit itself.
BTW, the unit is new and still under warranty and its connected to the car with ISO connectors that are all very tight and neat.

The first thing that comes to mind is that the Pioneer may be faulty. Warranty repair or replace job, I say!

On 2nd thoughts; does the Pioneer lose it's settings if you disconnect power to the unit? If it does, than you may have a loose power or ground lead. But if it doesn't (meaning it has non-volatile memory) then my initial diagnosis applies..

Re: Audio died then came back wiped clean
My guess would be the earth wire.
The unit would have 2 power wires. 1 constant and one powered when ignition is on. I think either of those would keep the memory settings if 1 became loose and lost contact. The earth wire is more likely.
pull it out, double check all the connections and go from there.

Thanks again for all the feedback. Last night i pulled the unit out and changed the earth connection to a crimped and soldered joint. I will test it next time I go on a run.
