Hi
As I have the original CD player/radio combination in my NA, I wanted to use my FM ipod transmitter to play my Ipod in the car. This unit plugs into the 12 volt outlet then transmits the Ipod signal to the radio. In my other car (as well as my wife's) this unit works perfectly, without any interference. With the car off and the accessories on in the MX-5, it works really well. When I turn the car on, I get a very loud pulsing interfence being transmitted, which I can only assume is electrical "noise" from the motor. Has anyone had a similar problem and know how to fix it? I don't want to remove the radio, as I am trying to keep most of the car original, with some minor safety modifications . Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Electrical interference from power outlet in NA
I wanted to keep my original radio on my NA so i bought an FM transmitter for my iPod. It worked perfectly until one day i could hear alot of interference when the engine was on. I posted my problem on this forum and someone suggested i changed my HT leads. I bought new leads from Mazda and hey presto no more interference. Apparantly when the leads get old they "leak" electricity if you know what i mean!
Cheers

Thanks for that! It definitely seems to have a "engine" rhythm to it, so this makes sense. I will give this a go to see if it works.

Thanks AK
I replaced the leads and it has fixed the problem.... I could only get a cheap set locally, so have ordered some Magnecors from the US and will swap them out when they arrive. I appreciate the help.

Glad to help. Having an fm transmitter/ipod set up is actually quite uesful because it lets you know when your HT leads need changing!

Anyone happen to know if this would solve a simiar problem with a tomtom holder for my iPhone? Engine speed related whine at all engine speeds. Stight increase in volume at higher loads?

I suggest it would be a good place to start, before you start trying complex noise loops etc. It certainly fixed my problem!
