Re-locating battery?

Hey all,
Bit of a silly one, but has anyone re-located their battery in their mx5?
I've got an NA6 and the reason i ask is that i'm an avid golfer, and can only just get my clubs in currently, due to the length of my driver.
As i don't run a spare wheel anymore due to coilover adjustment knob protrusion, i am keen to move it back to where the spare wheel used to sit.
Has anyone done this, or could someone that has more electrical experience than i (none) be able to give me an idea of what would be involved and how hard it would be to achieve?

(Note: don't stress, i won't be messing around with electrics having "no idea" i'm curious as to what is involved though)

There isn't much room, if any, in the engine bay for a battery...

I can't imagine it would be very easy for me to drive from the passenger seat!
Have just thrown the driver in the passenger seat, but then you have an issue if you wish to walk away from the car. Having a $600 golf club on display isnt ideal.
I definately don't want to put it in the engine bay, just push it deeper into the boot.
Am thinking the earth (neutral) wire will be easy to extend, its just the positive may be harder. Other than that, it will just require a new bracket to hold it down. Anyone see any issue to this logic?

Moving the battery such a short distance shouldn't be a difficult problem at all. All you need is a way of securing it and for the cables to reach.

Cabling might just reach unassisted. Positive certainly will but the negative might now. However making a new earth wire wouldn't be difficult or expensive.

Securing it shouldn't be hard either. Find out where it fits and build a restraint to hold it there. Sort of like a square omega bolted to the boot floor would do the trick.

That wouldn't be hard. You might also be able to get away with a physically smaller battery such as an Oddessy to fit in the tunnel beside the fuel tank.

i put an oddessey battery in mine a few years back, and it frees up a bit of space as it is half the size of a normal battery. mine is mounted vertically in the stock location and did not require any modification to the wiring, altho i had to fab up a new harness for it, using the existing bits which i modified accordingly with stuff from bunnings.
if you mounted an odddessy horziontally it should solve yr golf club problems. i don't remember if the wires are long enough to do this, but if not, they would only require to be lengthened by a small amount.

There are 2 tubes that run from the boot into the passenger compartment, one on either side of the fuel tank.
If you remove some of the boot lining on the passengers side, you will see the tube easily.
Now, you can put your long driver into the tube, and depending on its length, it may protrude a little into the passenger compartment, but at least you wont have to re-locate your battery.
