Edit: Could someone please post a photo of the inside (component side) of an Australian delivered '96-'97 NA8 ECU with the 'P5' revision number in the VIN. Japan got a new 16 bit ECU in August '95 built cars, so I expect we got it in '96-'97 complianced cars, but would like to confirm to determine if our ECUs can be chipped as has been confirmed for Oct '93 - Dec '95 inclusive complianced cars. See following updated post for further info:

Thanks in advance. End edit.
i'm trying to determine if the australian delivered nb8a (Jan 1998- Sep 2000) ecu used a flash rom like the jdm & us delivered cars, or eprom like the na8 - grateful any assistance.
here's a pic of the eprom (rectangular chip to the left of the square chip near centre) in an na8 ecu:
& here's a pic of a 2002 nb8b ecu thought to be a euro delivery:

Tks Matty - it's an hour or so drive away, but I'll keep it in mind for next time I'm heading up that way if also convenient with you.

Thanks Matty - much appreciated!
I'm no expert but the NB8A ECU certainly has different chips to the NA8 ECU - not a 28 or 32 pin EPROM in sight, which will make at least some of the work done by the folks on Miata.net not transferable to the NB8A. However, still a possibility it could be applicable to late '95, '96 & '97 NA8.
