NB8A r/c central locking & alarm

Hi all, just bought my first Mx5 (gold NB stock with wheels)
first thing on the list to do!
Install remote central locking (and alarm as well)
As I am sure most are aware the NB8A has a slave actuator in the passenger door triggered by
a switch in the Drivers door lock mechanism, The obvious answer is to fit an aftermarket remote
actuator in the drivers door. I had a couple of spare actuators lying around from a previous
job so I just needed a remote sender(fob) and receiver. Off to ebay
I found that a complete alarm system (with the door driver circuit built in) was cheaper than
buying a stand alone remote central locking kit, so I bought one.
1. Fit the actuator
remove door handle trim etc.
gently peel back the protective plastic, be careful of the black sticky goop.
locate the door lever, you will see 2 steel rods attached running horizontally one for the lock!
I removed the molded foam block (you will know it when you see it,2 plastic screws) that will
leave enough room for the actuator. The actuator will push/pull in a horizontal direction and
attach to the locking rod using the usuall supplied hardware. All went together cleanly secured
tested and ran wiring (2 wires) back through the rubber conduit with the existing wiring (speaker,
power windows, etc) Tip pry away the rubber boot at the body side of the door rubber conduit, you
will see it is actually a plug. to release the plug you need to locate the green tab on the plug, pull
it up and you will be able to remove the plug from the socket. I removed the green tab completely
so I have room to feed the wires through for a clean factory look. tested and reassembled door.

2 Fit the Brain Box
I won't go into too much detail just where the needed connections are located
Remove the lower covers below the steering column (3 screws, and 2 screws) remove the fuse box cover!
(ok read about the tip for removing the beeping sound when the door is open and the key is in the
ignition, this involves locating the 2 plugs attached to the back of the ignition key assembly and
simply disconnecting the top plug (2 thinner wires)(simply a switch that reads the insertion of the key)

Back to the required connections for the alarm sys

After removing the covers below the steering column you will see a large black plug mounted to
the underside of the steering column, this is where I connected into the parking (hazard) lights
(no need to to access the hazard switch) green/black and green/white are directly wired to the
left right indicators.

Constant power was connected to the fuse box using the 10amp door switch circuit

Accessory power connected to the cig lighter (20amp fuse)

Door trigger I removed the scuff panel and tapped into the standard door switch on the drivers side
either door will set off alarm (both switches will ground the circuit)(negative trigger)

Wired up the door actuator to the brain as per instructions

Attach and adjust microwave and shock sensor as per instructions

works a treat

This took me most of a day to figure out, hopefully this will save you some time!

Nice write up, hopefully a mod can move it to the Technical Guides section so it won't get lost in here.
