CDs skipping, a lot!

anybody else have this issue?

I have a 2000 NB8A stock speakers, stock head unit, stock 6cd stacker.

anyway, the CDs skip a lot and it's bloody annoying, my Mondeo has the same stacker (looks identical, but mounted under it's seat) and it does not skip anywhere near as much.



I can only put it down to two things:

1. common MX5 thing, jsut have to live with it.
2: the crap mounting of teh stacker (it's mounted on the left of the boot, sitting upright with the loading slot pointed at the sky, is this how Mazda mounted them? i've seen a few others like it too)

anyway, are there any fixes? like mounting the stacker flat on the boot floor rather than upright?

I don't own a stacker, but I believe some of them have a switch/dial on them that you need to adjust depending on the way it is installed, ie flat/vertical/in-between.

Yep, somewhere on here many moons ago I put up a scan of the installation instructions indicating the location of the switch which determines verticle or horizontal mount.

Have a bit of a search, I think it might be located on the side of the unit under the mounting brackets but not 100% on that.

If the switch is set the right way make sure the unit is mounted securely and clean the laser head. If it's dirty it wont track properly.

Common problem!!!!! I have put a sponge under the stacker which has helped but not eradicated the problem. I believe you can get some mounts that have mercury or some gell type stuff but have not located. A lot of the problem is that they are mounted too close to the rear axle and suspension.

I have the 6 stacker mounted almost horizontally on the right side of the boot and guess what? It also skips a lot on rough roads (anything not dead smooth!). The different mounting makes me think they were a dealer fit and they all had different ideas on mounting. My NB8A was delivered by Eurocars in Artarmon NSW.

I'm not if sure other stackers would also skip in an MX-5. The car's suspension is not exactly geared to a soft ride which stackers probably prefer. Nowadays CD stackers are pretty well replaced by i-pod plug-ins which won't have this problem (or take up valuable boot space!).

I'll look for the switch that people have mentioned, and run a lens cleaner disc through it.

I'll also look at adding some kind of rubber bushes to mount with rather than the metal brackets.

I have the in dash stacker in my NB8B and it has never skipped once. So not all stackers skip.

The NB8A stacker was a dealer fitted option which is why they weren't all set up properly.

I had major skipping issues with mine, then changed the "switch" for the damping settings, which reduced the skipping noticeably, but it still wasn't great. So I fitted an in-dash CD head unit

so easy solution was get a new headunit
