NB8A Passenger Cental Locking Problem

Postby Okibi » Sun Dec 30, 2007 1:54 am

I thought i'd post this encase others have the same issue.

For awhile now my passenger central has been fine at unlocking but intermittent in locking the door on our NB8A.

It got so bad the door wouldn't lock at all but it would unlock.

I pulled the door skin off and looked at the plug for the central locking.

It only has 2 pins to the locking actuator so I knew that the signal was still going to the actuator from the central locking control module (as the lock was still unlocking).

(At this point I was tinkering around and managed to blow the 10amp fuse in the fuse box to the right of the steering wheel. The weird thing is the drivers side central locking still worked fine. .. so if your passenger side central locking stops working all together try this fuse first!)

The magnets in the actuator were repelling from each other letting the door unlock but they were a fraction too far from each other to attract and lock the door.

The solution was to adjust the rod connected to the door latch lock so that the magnets were slightly closer together.

I also lubed the window sliders and the lock components while the skin was off.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Well that was lame ..

I used some silicon grease stuff on the runners and used a teflon based mountain bike chain lube on the mechanical components.
