basic audio upgrade

Postby sweep77 » Sun Jan 27, 2008 9:45 am

just thought i'd show a couple pics of what i did yesterday. Just got some cheap tweeters and crossovers and mounted them. everything is standard except the headunit. Actually sounds ok! lacking a bit in bass but the mids and highs are quite good considering the cost i paid lol

Are they mounted on the door trim? Don't suppose you're having any problems with kicking them when getting in/out of the car?

i made up a bracket so they are mounted on the door slider hinge thing. no issues with hitting when driving cause your feet are in front of them. u have to be a bit more careful getting in but most of the time its fine

its not supposed to be some expensive well setup audio system. was just a cheap idea to see what it was like. was cheap and sounds good so no sweat off my back.

I dont see anything wrong with that setup, I have seen this been done before but not in an MX5...

Apparently they sound better because it \"directional\" ie pointing the speakers towards the driver...

exactly. if you know anything about car audio then a great deal of winning systems have the tweeters mounted down low pointing to the roof of the car. it brings the soundstage up to around windscreen level and minimises sounds delay. sure its not a professional install but it works until i get some decent speakers.

The tweeters themselves actually probably don't sound too bad - as long as they aren't producing ALL of your sound frequencies, it should be a significant upgrade over original. :)
