windscreen wipers on NA so slow!

Postby faijai » Tue Dec 04, 2007 2:30 pm

Hi All
new to the forums.
Tried a quick search on hear but couldnt find anything which match my query.

Friend of mine just recently picked up an NA6 (i think), a 90 modem mx5 and with the rain which happened this weekend we realised that the wiper's are extremly slow even on the fastest setting. Is this normal?

Is this a comon problem u guys have or is it just this particular one's wiper about to die?

any help would be great.
are the NB wiper motors retro fittable into the NA's? (just a thought)

yeah i thought the same thing when i first got my NA. got caught in a very heavy downpour and couldn't see very well. hasn't seemed to have been a problem since tho, and i've dríven in similar conditions a few times since then. wierd. maybe the window just needs a good clean or something :?

They are slower than most other cars, especially modern ones. I had a 2000 Subaru before the mex, which were heaps quicker.

You do get used to it though, and I haven't found them wanting yet...

Have you checked the wiring for clean connections? Especially the earth. I dont recall my NA wipers being slow.

I'll have a look this weekend.
ill clean the widscreen and also change the wipers to some new ones and see how that goes.

when i say slow i dont mean snail pace, i guess they are much slower then the modern cars when on the fastest setting. there doesnt seem to be much speed difference between the 2nd last and last setting on the car.

My NA wipers only have 2 speeds.
I use rainex as well which makes the wipers only occasionally necessary.
I remember my EK had vacuum wipers which went slower with more throttle and when I floored the accellerator they would stop

Likewise, my wipers are so slow I've pretty much given up and use Rainex instead. It's only a problem once or twice a year in Melbourne these days anyway.

I have 3...well i guess u can call it 3.

theres the Intermittent one where it wipes, stops for a few seconds and then wipes again. then theres 2 other settings below that which wipe continously. its those 2 which i cant see much speed difference in.

Intermittant-1-2. Yeah that's the same as mine.
You must have a problem there somewhere, There's a big difference in speed between 1 & 2 on mine.

I have the same problem - high speed same as low speed - replaced the motor did not make any difference. Im going to check the switch whenI have the steering wheel covers off next. I use Rainex to get by.
