So here's a funny one. I think it was either Monday or Tuesday or something. It was fairly warm out (like 15, as compared to the 5's during winter) and yet it still didn't work. It started going after a little bit of driving though.

Perhaps something to do with cabin temperature still being low, since the sun hadn't hit the car yet when I got in it.

Will try find some time to look at it this weekend, but I highly doubt I'll be able to wake up early enough to have a fiddle :P

It got a fiddling too after I was done  :P

I actually woke up at bloody 7:40am on Saturday, so it was early enough to have a look. Mind you, there was no problem when I got in the car.

When driving home this afternoon it wasn't working again, so I guess this rules out the cold being a problem. It wasn't overly warm today, but nor was it at a temperature I would think would cause thermal contraction of something.

Might just have to wait til it happens on a saturday again and just start testing stuff with a multimetre.

An update for those who care.

It starting working again intermittently recently, so that kinda rules out cold weather as the only cause.

After much playing around with all the wiring harnesses etc that the defroster is connected to, I get the feeling it could have something to do with the wiring up the back. If I jiggle the wiring, I can hear the relay click over twice, so something's gotta be loose. If I leave the defroster on and put the roof down, it cuts out. Then when I put the roof back up, the defroster stays busted.

I get the feeling I'm gonna have to pull the carpet up and actually have a look at the wiring back there before this gets resolved. Will just have to wait til when I put the 6x9's in the parcel shelf as well to kill two birds with one stone.

there was something about a switch which makes sure it's off when it's down, can anyone confirm

Yeah, that's what I discovered when I was looking at the wiring diagram yesterday. The problem is that it seems like it could be optional as there's sections in the wiring diagram which state that this is the circuit diagram with the switch and without the switch.

I get the feeling that if it's an Australian bought car it has the switch though, because we did get the one spec of NB8A's out here, and that was the higher spec'ed one. Still, I'd like to hear it from someone who's more sure about it than I am.

Funny thing was that when I was hunting around for cars I drove a crystal blue one. Somehow it didn't inspire confidence in me like the NB8A's do. Then again, it could've just been a lemon NB8B, as it's the only one I'd dríven whilst on the hunt for a car. They were generally out of my price range when I was looking, and it's not really worth selling the NB8A to upgrade now, since the sale price of the NB8A is rather low.
