[QLD] A considered drive.
Hi all!
After running up to Tamborine on Fathers Day with the Father, I decided to sit down and make a 'exploratory' drive that we could go on.
I don't really know much about the back-water roads of QLD, only being a youngin', so some of this may not make sense to why I chose that route But most of the part, the roads look fun on paper - so thats what I'm hoping for in real life. (Yeah, you can definitely tell I have never studied architecture )
But anyway, I thought I would quickly throw this up for the people that are interested.
This drive will be happening, but I'm gonna have to replace my brakes before I set out on this wonderful adventure. But if people are willing to play it by ear with me - I am more than happy to have a convoy of fives when the day comes around
Anyway - Here is the map. (I am still unsure how to trim a link down)
https://maps.google.com.au/maps?saddr=Windaroo+Tavern,+Beaudesert-Beenleigh+Road,+Windaroo,+Queensland&daddr=North+Tamborine,+Queensland+to:Canungra,+Queensland+to:Duck+Creek+Road,+O'reilly,+Queensland+to:Innisplain+Road,+Running+Creek,+Queensland+to:The+Risk,+New+South+Wales+to:-28.3864654,152.7198563+to:Springfield+Lakes,+Queensland&hl=en&ll=-27.83179,153.135681&spn=0.630291,1.234589&sll=-28.417372,152.858276&sspn=0.313429,0.617294&geocode=FcDIWP4d_IwhCSFjqDw8cJcxoSmHemVTIkCRazFjqDw8cJcxoQ%3BFSjbVf4dcWohCSmlB-VUzhmRazGA3d7zWqMCBQ%3BFWd9VP4dWBshCSkN6jF8FyGRazFAod7zWqMCBQ%3BFZPRUf4dFBwgCSlDSFRe1duQazERfNq8zqqSEw%3BFZyDUf4d2vgcCSlpqa1rP9KQazG6Rp6Alsd9Ig%3BFbJ7Tf4diJIdCSmXqjg8LbGQazEA_kOQtAkGBA%3BFV_bTv4d8FEaCSnjWlhZm0mXazFBt-pytAkGEw%3BFdPWWf4dl18dCSkRZLUWG0qRazFA297zWqMCBQ&oq=Spring&mra=dpe&mrsp=6&sz=11&via=6&t=m&z=10
Note: The second plan was to go home via Warrick, so continuing along Mt Lindsay Rd. A bit longer, but it looks just as fun.
Oh, and I think I was wrong for ever saying 'Kings way'. Its Running Creek Rd that I was referring too...just ignore everything else I ever said.
Edit: If someone could give me a tip on how to 'trim' a url? Sorry for the longness!

Haha, organised a run over most of that route to Tamborine Mtn and down to Canungra yesterday with the MG Car Club.
Running Creek Rd is also known as Lions Rd - it's getting a bit chopped up these days. You'll need more than new brakes to cover some of the route you have chosen from O'Reilly's to Kerry Rd - a 4WD would be my choice of vehicle for that. Kerry Rd and the run across to Hillview and Rathdowney are popular MX-5 club routes as is the Summerland Way and Mt Lindesay Hwy.
To trim the URL for a Google map: go the "link" icon in the top of the left pane and select "Short URL".

I don't recommend going to Killarney from Woodenbong on the Mt Lindsay Road, it is not in very good repair. The Mount Lindsay Highway all the way up to Woodenbong is fine though.

^^ Was out there three months ago and agree that the surface of the Woodenbong to Legume section is pretty ordinary - especially new Old Koreelah. They were doing some patch up work at the time though.
We'll be out to the Summerland Way area in a couple of weeks with the BMW club and will update on the road conditions.

Excellent tip John! I hadn't noticed the "Short URL" checkbox before you mentioned it. No more bitly or tinyurl for me!

That's one of the problems with going to O'Reilly's in a non-4WD - one way in and same way back out.

Agreed, the trip up to O'reillys from Canungra isn't fun, let alone trying to come down Duck Creek Rd. I am however planning a Border Run, still have to check out the road conditions though.

If you're doing a "border run", the road from Kyogle to Uki is total cr@p. Was there last month and there are some suspension breaking holes.

Re: [QLD] A considered drive.
Are we talking about the uber twisty road going straight to O'Reily's?
It's crazy tight on several corners, read: full steering lock, and it's a good place to check the quality of your suspension setup
Last time we went up there (about a year ago) was at night and I was told that I was crazy/suicidal to do so by a skillful mountain driver (I'm being sarcastic) so most people weren't keen on going but we passed only a few cars, which I assumed were locals who lived on that road, so IMO it was far safer, plus you can see approaching headlights.
Road surface is sub-par, but it's makes a nice change every once in while.

Re: [QLD] A considered drive.
Did the border run, road from Murwullimbah to Numinbah sucks but Murwullimbah to currumbin is great, wouldn't reccomend oreillys really, but if I can find another route back from Murwullimbah ill post check it out.
