Did this run on way home from newcastle 2nite and passed exactly 3 cars on first half then another 12 on second half. All going the other way. If you want to get a good run at this road this is the perfect time to do it. the morning run had hundreds of bikes and pushies. It was magic to get it deserted.

The main problem with this run is 60kph limit for most of the way.

Best time is any weeknight, sometimes you wont even see a car the whole way.
Yes, the 60k zone is a bit of a joke.

dont remember seeing the 60 limit sign? I am sure I would have only gone over it by a little bit anyway! If I did happen to go over it.

Its 70km/h for the open section and 60km/h as soon as you get to the start of Section 4, then OPH is 60km/h the whole way until the start of the uphil in Section 1.

Sorry to hijack the thread but with a bit of a break in the weather today I thought I'd go for a wander up OPH. Wow never seen so many rbts, speed traps and cruising police. Pretty much 50% of the vehicles were bikes and police even got close to being book despite someone warning me. That guy was so well hidden... on the way back decided to go for galston gorge and halfway through I got a KU SS commodore on my rear. Well I wasn't speeding (there was traffic anyway) but I thought he was waiting for a wide bit to pull me over. Luckily not the case.
Also did bobbin head and gladly paid the fee (hopefully it goes to national parks and not general govt coffers)
Finally to contribute to the thread, I worry about these roads at night, dont you run over all the critters? Im not a greeny but ivdont relish cleaning blood and guts from my car, let alone the possible safety aspect if it's large (kangaroo) or you swerve and lose control.

If your passing thru you can avoid the fee, The fee is for people using the park. That's the word of the people enforcing the money, passed onto myself. I go down there a fair bit, it's great for photos

Depending on the person defending the gates... Never been an issue during the week; gates are usually un-manned, and you only have to pay if you park, but weekends they tend enforce the 'entry' fee more strictly. I did drive through at 5:30-6pm yesterday, and there wasn't anyone there though... they usually knock off by then.
Re. OPH, did the drive with my son, at dusk
no traffic at all on my side, and a few cars driving up the hill, didn't see any enforcement, although I wasn't driving quickly and it was very dark and I might have missed a hidden trap somewhere. I assume this sort of thing results in a car pulling me over, and not a gold coin request in the mail
