Mt Beauty to Bright

Simply awesome piece of road up and over a hill. Billard table smooth and wide, lots of 30/40/50kmh type corners with a 100kmh speed limit so you can really enjoy yourself. With the recent fires a lot of the shubbury has been burnt out so visibility is great. A must do if you're in the area. 21km of MX5 heaven. :mrgreen:

The hillclimb might be a bit steep for non FI cars but the trip down the other side is still fun. I rate it AAA+++.

Mmmmm. Tawonga Gap. One of my fave stretches of bitumen, love those wide hairpins! Glad you found it Garry! The gold NB8A handled the climb well, just gotta keep it down a notch over the SE.

Pity it's so far away from me Alf. I did a 2 day blast through the NSW/Victorian Snowie Mountains during the week and I'd do it all again today if I could. You Victorians have some fantastic MX5 roads with descent speed limits on them so you can actually have some fun. In NSW that road would be narrow, rough as guts and have a 60kmh speed limit. :frown:

Yep thats an awesome bit of road, the Toyota Townace handled it beautifully, its RWD of course :mrgreen:

Quoted for truth and emphasis. You Victorians have no idea how good you have it. Road quality is many many times better than any others I've dríven in Australia, and speed limits are more reasonable in nearly every instance.

This is one of the best bits of road any where. I have done it about 8 times and still have to get it right yet. the best thig is it is near the Alpine Way which is my fav piece of road.

Tasmania still has the best twisties, bar none & those lovely black circles with a line thru them that mean 110 Kmh...............even on the "B"roads :mrgreen:

You're right AJ, there are some classic roads in Tasmania, but they are even further away from me than Victorian roads

This particular stretch of road is up there with the best of them though.

It certainly is a great road. Try to avoid driving in the evening during Spring & Autumn 'cause those bloody Bogong moths make a real mess of your car. They can block your radiator too if you're unlucky enough.
I remember going on a night ride motorcycle run along the Great Alpine Road, wearing an open face helmet, and every Bogong moth that hit my face hurt like hell......it was still worth it though.

Drove this (Bright - Mt Beauty) both ways at Natmeet 2008 and then ran along this from Bright on the way back from Natmeet 2010. Early morning was fabulous. :mrgreen:

We came up the Great Alpine Way the day prior. - beyooodiful.

I popped down here again this weekend. Still an awesome piece of road and everything is so much nicer around there in mid spring compared to mid summer.
