I'm looking for a nice road to take my MX for a cruise in or around Perth.

The only twisty sort of road I know is Empire Ave in City Beach as it's covered in roundabouts with good side road visibility. Plus you can wander on to West Coast Highway and go for a cruise afterwards (albeit at 70).

Any suggestions? I'll take twisty or picturesque - not fussed.

Join the MX-5 club of W.A. , there's a cruise on the first Sunday of every month as well as many other great events.

Now is the perfect time to join with the New Members Dinner and Driver Training day coming up shortly.

The 15% off Mazda Parts and Service at Mazda Dealers Statewide is also another great reason to join.

I have a few cruise maps on my other PC which might give you an idea of the great roads just outside of Perth.

Check out Mundaring Weir, O'Brien Rd, Reserve Road, the Zig Zag, Chittering Valley Rd.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Mundaring Weir Road is a beautiful ~25km twisty road that runs between Kalamunda & Mundaring via the Helena Reservoir (and Mundaring Weir) crossing several streams & the Helena River along the way. I haven't taken the 5 along there yet, I shall have to do so soon!

The Kalamunda end terminates @ Mead St, or from Mundaring (Gt Eastern Hwy) turn South into Nichol St, then Left into Jacoby & Right into Maddock.

The Zig-Zag is always fun, and what a view!

O'Brien Rd is off Toodyay Rd about 7km past Red Hill and Chittering Valley Rd is in (surprise!) Chittering - you get onto Chittering Road from the Gt Northern Highway in Bullsbrook (near the RAAF Pearce base) and about 15km down Chittering rd there's a turnoff to Chittering Valley road.

Although I have spent LOTS of time in that area, most of it wasn't driving on roads (my other passion is 4WDing) so although I can guarantee the countryside is very beautiful I can't tell you much about the roads :)

I don't know Reserve rd at all, is it the one off Gt Northern Hwy, just past Muchea?

Decided to take the mx-5 out for a spin and it was awesome on O'brien Road

Yep, be careful, as I was leaving I slowed down near the bridge to find an ambulance, police car and what looked like a S14 (200sx) that had rolled

there are some good roads up near araluenish way
mill road and canning mill road
both excellent twisty roads but be very careful about branches on the roads!!
had a friend lose control in an ae86 trying to avoid a branch on the road
turned out to be an interesting night but just be careful!

After driving through there last weekend with the MX5 club, I can see how...

Being my first time through there I was taking it easy, but I do remember going into that one corner, and the radius of the corner suddenly tightening much more than I was expecting, then at its tightest point seeing "that tree" that has now become a shrine (wreaths, flowers etc everywhere)

I can see how anyone running against the clock & really pushing themselves can easily become unstuck in that corner - no matter how much experience you may have.

Also watch out for the bikes, also most corners are infested with gravel, dont take the corners too fast, but Brocky had a V8 little thing that weights as little as a MX5 and carries a 15L V8 or something.

Canning Dam rd is also a great run ending in croyden rd but beware of the last corners it tightens into a stop sign, it slipped my mind last time and i entered Brookton Hwy a little faster than i wanted too. Also nearly hit a big ass Pig dog, was an eventful drive that one!
