Looks like you might have to wind up the boost for Natmeet Mike.

Nice times guys, sounds like a good day was had by all.

 Wind up the boost?? What are we up against??

To get round there much faster, I reckon the Tein treatment next, and sticky rubber.

Oh and one other thing. Ted has always been at me about the SP needing a LSD, and I've always said, yeah, whatever, when would I ever need it??? Well, today, I could definitely feel time slipping away spinning the inside rear coming out of at least three of the turns. So I think an LSD would be worth a little bit of time at QR too, with the amount of power the SP puts out.

A real shame PT and Tony couldn't have been there with their SE and NC.... don't you think, AJ? Charlie Brown? 8)

Dunno, my best is a 1.05.46, albeit on sticky rubber.

Well done guys, and I am sure you had fun. Anyone wondering why they didn't do this earlier??

Yes Mike, you need an LSD. And depending on what gear you were in, there is a bit of time there too. 4th for turns 1 and 2, 3rd for 6. My best in old BRG is low 67 on R tyres, high 63s in the TypeR. Mind you that is years ago, track conditions have changed.

What about turns 3, 4 & 5 for the Clubman layout? I was using 3rd because 2nd seemed just too low but 3rd also seemed a tad too high initially.
To improve my times I know I needed more than 8 laps, a heavier right foot on the accelerator pedal, later braking with a heavier right foot on the brake pedal , bigger balls and no bloody shoes - I'm so used to driving barefoot now that my sneakers felt like platforms and I felt like I'd gained an extra six inches leg length and 4 inches foot width  I think I'll have to paint a shoe pattern on my socks

They are called race boots. :D

The least amount of gear changes you can get away with, without letting the revs drop too low, will always be the fastest. Whether that means holding a gear for a little longer or not changing down, only to change back up again sooon after.

What Cal said. Problem John is that its a bit of a catch 22. When you are starting out, you don't have the corner speed, and you need the corner speed to hold a higher gear. Basically, you don't want to upset the car so the fewer the changes, the smoother the braking the better.

I would say 3rd is ideal for the middle and end corner sections of the clubman and sprint layouts. This has so far been true for the six or so cars I have taken around QR.

Here is Google Earth map data, from the GPS, for your nerd pleasure :)

Top speed on the GPS was 172 km/h. I was being rather careful down the back straight on the National track.

I need to learn to heel and toe - downshifts were getting a squeal from the rears. I also need to learn my lines better, corner faster and grow some more balls for when I go for a corner.

But at least I'm better prepared for when it comes to the next track day at NatMeet. I'm really looking forward to it.

Great day! Nice to spend a day with some fellow 5 nuts!

Thanks for the encouragement and company guys...
Pretty happy with a 1:10.13 on Clubman and a 01:37.61 on the National. Still need to work on my corner entries though, managed to hold 120+ in 4th through turn 1 but wussed out and braked and downshifted for turn 3 after a near thing with the wrong side of the ripplestrip on the corner exit (you weren't even braking for turn 2 Geoff). Cracked 165+ down the back stright on national though (blued the disks nicely).
As Mike hinted, my alignment was off. The guys I took it to (up till now, the only guys I would trust with the job) on Monday night convinced me that my request for a tiny bit of rear toe in was wrong and that toe out was the go with the extra camber (1.9ish deg) which provided me with a very wayward rear end when trying to transition weight to the front for turn in. I'll stick to my guns next time, and I'll be giving them a serve tomorrow.

Scuffed the shoulders on the ES100s pretty heavily so next up... sticky rubber..

Thanks again guys,
T

Explains why we both ran off that corner then :)

I wasn't quite pushing 120 around that first corner. I wasn't game. I actually ran long, past the ripple strip and onto the dirt... whoops :) I have to be more ballsy next time.

Have you managed to pull that video off of the camera yet? Some footage would be great :)
