Scam alert

I was contacted by DavidParts and managed to believe he was genuine, and gave him money. Nope, a scam!! If contacted by "DavidParts" or anyone refering you to this seller, take care. It seems he has managed to register as a user on this forum under another name, which is what lead me to believe he is genuine.

What name did he register as? Users need to know ...

The 'business' name will be different next time, but he will need to contact people using his registered nic.

For you and others, when something like this happens, please report it using the report button, the one labelled '!' (exclamation mark) so mods can take action, but only Okibi can ban a user. A public post is also useful to alert others, but it needs to flag the user nic

This is a public forum, and while Okibi does what he can to control who registers, these people do get through sometimes. Users need to do some due dilligence before handing money over - how long registered, post history etc - caveat emptor and all that ...

andreypal was the user that contacted me. when i looked afterwards, he had only just registered for forum. I take full responsibility for being conned - should not go button pressing when busy watching tv!!! I was so relieved i had finally found an na8 manifold all caution went out window. As previously said - do your "due diligence"

Thanks for that, I have notified Okobi.

The scammers used to reply in the thread (usually a WTB), but now we are alert to the signs and someone will blow the whistle pretty quickly. So now they use PMs, where only their target sees the approach.

I hope you didn't lose too much, any chance of getting it back?

Thanks Clubbie, I didn't put it together like you, but I did note his join date and the meaningless posts, and had my suspicions. Action taken, posts deleted - may be trying to get post count up, but those posts give the game away.

I guess that is another red flag, or at least amber, when the posts do nothing to contribute to the community and its interests.

Of course he is probably reading this ...

Make sure to report it https://www.cyber.gov.au/acsc/view-all- ... sary/acorn too - they will at least shut down the bank account etc and prosecute the money mule, unless he is stupid and actually used his own details, in which case...

In case you don't want to click the link, just google ACORN cyber fraud - should be the first result.
