NA Roadsafe brand replacement upper ball joints - replacement boots to suit

Postby twr7cx » Thu Jul 12, 2018 10:19 pm

The title is a bit of a mouthful, but thought I would put this up here for both my own personal future reference and to perhaps assist anyone else in the future.

The Roadsafe brand < http://www.roadsafe.com.au > replacement upper ball joints for the NA MX-5, part number BJ2334, seem to be a commonly available replacement part at a reasonable price. Unlike the Moog Suspension units they don't have a zerk fitting for a grease gun, but where significantly cheaper in price and available locally without waiting for international freight. Having now used them, I found that they were an easy swap over in the upper control arms using a common small shop press and seemed to be of good build quality.

I recently found I needed to replace one of the boots (due to damaged caused by myself) however they are not identical to that of the OEM units, so the commonly available replacement boots were not a suitable solution. I found that my local Repco Auto Parts store stocked their own brand replacement "SMALL T/ROD KIT 12/29MM', part number TE2 and this was a perfect fit for these. It was around $5.00 for the pair of. The packet indicates that it is a home brand rebranding of a KOK brand produced.

Note: there is a tight fitting to the shaft inner seal at the top despite that it looks to be open.

Thanks for sharing your experience and the part numbers.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

That is a good find, nice work.

Note: NB upper ball joints are not the same as NA upper ball joints. Don't put NA's on your NB! (Unless you also swap in NA hubs)
