Brake caliper slider pin options (NA)?

There is a fair bit of clearance between my slider pins and the hole on the bracket. Which part tends to wear, the pin or the bracket? (i.e. if I replace the pins, how much improvement can I expect?) Pins are cheap, brackets are expensive. Are there any upgrade options, or is the only option OE?
This is on my race car. The calipers are sliding freely but there is a lot of taper wear on the pads and a better fitting slider pin would help.

I had your exact problem with my na6 calipers, plus some clunking from the calipers. After purchasing brand new slider pins I found them to be the same diameter as my old pins and made no difference. I bought a pair of second hand brackets which solved my problems. It seems to be the bracket that wears, unfortunately.

Isn't there a rubber(?) sleeve inside the largest hole, that the pin slides in? Maybe needs replacing?

The smaller pin runs in a rubber sleeve, which appears to be in good condition.
It's the larger pin which I am asking about. It runs directly in the hole in the bracket, so it's the one which determines now much play there is in the overall assembly.

The big pin has a seal, from memory, but it basically coated steel pin, grease and drilled steel hole that does the bearing of load.

On a lot of the performance BMWs they tend to use a bronze bushing for the caliper pin to slide on.
