My newly acquired 89 NA6 has the Daisy wheels (7 spoke alloys 14" x 5.5"). I had to take one off this afternoon to fit the spare due to a tear in the sidewall (the tyres fitted date to 2005 - no idea what the previous owner was thinking running tyres so old!). When I removed the centre cap, I found the wheel removal tool in the boot to be too small for the wheel nuts. The wheel nuts fitted were also in two different hex sizes - 19mm and 21mm and looked as though they had previously been cut down to length.
Anyone able to advise if the Daisy wheels have a unique/specific wheel nut to suit (I assume it is a short length nut to be able to fit behind the centre cap and around 17mm hex if the nut tool in my boot is correct) or will the genuine OEM wheel nuts off any NA/NB be suitable replacements?

they are 21mm socket on my '89 NA6
quite short - they're only ~17mm from 'outside' flat to bottom of the chamfer, and are open nuts without any dome caps.

I wonder if the lug nut wrench/socket tool in my boot is the incorrect one then.

It should be more like a bent rod with a socket at one end. maybe (don't hold me to this) that's for the spark plugs?
here's a generic image grabbed from the web of a tool kit (black bag). Looks like there's the same tube tool in there. You can see the tool you're looking for there too.

Yeah, the tube is the oem spark plug tool.
As for the nuts, they're fairly generic steel taper nuts, can't remember the size/pitch though

Thanks for the replies. I found this thread which discuss with pictures the standard tools https://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_posts ... l-kit.aspx
I’ll sort out fresh wheel nuts today to get them all back to a matching uniform sizing.

Re: NA6 Daisey wheels - wheel nuts to suit
According to the Nice Products catalogue the correct wheel nuts for the NA is NN360C < https://niceproducts.com.au/product/nn360c-wheel-nut/ >. However these are a chrome capped (blind) nut that is 24.0mm tall.
NN321 < https://niceproducts.com.au/product/nn321-wheel-nut/ > instead has the same thread (M12x1.50), same Hex (21mm), the same taper (60*) but is open at the top and only 16.0mm tall in a zinc finish. I think these would be suitable replacement for the 11 modified 19mm hex nuts fitted to my vehicle.

Either should work, but go for capless to save any headaches if they don't clear the centrecap of the wheels.

the capped ones look like the standard ones on my Nb8b, which does't have the centre mini-hubcaps of the daisy's.
