185/60R14 street tyre recommendations?

I'm looking to replace the 185/60R14 tyres on the Daisey wheels of my NA6. I have read through two threads from earlier this year, viewtopic.php?f=30&t=73934 and viewtopic.php?f=30&t=74640 , looking for recommendations. I'm not interested in semi-slicks and want a tyre that holds up well in the wet weather too.

Ignoring price difference, the main options in performance tyres available to suit at the moment seem to be:

Falken Ziel ZE912 < http://www.falken.com.au/product/ziex-ze912/ >
Bridgestone Turanza T001 < https://www.bridgestonetyres.com.au/turanza-t001 >
Dunlop SP Sport FM800 < http://www.dunloptyres.com.au/dotCMS/Ty ... m=3PerPage > (this seems to have replaced the Dunlop LM704 that previous threads discussed as the LM704 doesnt come up in the Dunlop Tyre Size Search, although online it seems there might still be some stock and it's listed on their website in the size http://www.dunloptyres.com.au/dotCMS/Ty ... m=3PerPage ?)

Other brand offerings which seem to be more passenger car fuel economy orientated include:

Maxxis MAP1 < https://maxxistyres.com.au/section-resu ... 1&tyid=872 > and MAP3 < https://maxxistyres.com.au/section-resu ... &tyid=1791 > (I can't find the difference between the two - according to http://www.tyresgalore.com.au/wp-conten ... ochure.pdf they are both rated for 20% sport, 80% passenger with Quiet, Traction and Handling their main features)
Continental ContiComfortContact CC6 < https://www.continental-tyres.com.au/ca ... contactcc6 >
Kuhmo Solus KH17 < http://www.kumho.com.au/tyres/passenger/solus-kh17/ > and Ecowing ES01 KH27 < http://www.kumho.com.au/tyres/passenger/ecowing-kh27/ >
Toyo Nanoenergy 3, Teo Plus and/or Proxes C100+ < http://toyotires.com.au/tyres/passenger-car-tyres >
Pirelli Cinturato P6 < https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-au/car ... #/overview >
Michelin Energy XM2
Yokohama Bluearth ES32
Kuhmo KR26

Out of the Falken, Bridgestone and Dunlop options, any thoughts/opinions/comments on which to go with? Or other recommendations that I've missed?

Did the call around today:

Dunlop SP Sport FM800 - $125.00 per tyre, week wait for stock - salesman advises is a superior tyre to the LE7014
Dunlop SP Sport LE704 - $99.00 per tyre, week wait for stock - on special at the moment
Bridgestone Turanza TE001 - $115.00 per tyre, in stock
Falken Ziex ZE912 - no longer available, replaced by ZE914 Ecorun < http://www.falken.com.au/product/ziex-ze914-ecorun/ >
Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun - $125.00 per tyre, 5 days wait for stock.

So therefore it will be the Bridgestone's for me due to availability.

I'm going to need new tyres next year probably. I think i'm in the same boat as you as in i just need good all rounders, touring tyres i guess, not performance orientated.

I currently have Bridgestone Turanza ER300 185x60 R14 on my 7 spoke factory alloys (not Daisies, the later type) which suit my needs and i am happy with. However, they don't make the ER300's any more, the Turanza TE001's superseded them.

So after you have put a few miles on them i'd love to hear your opinion on the TE001's.

Cheers

AK

Know their websites say they are 'performance' tyres, but they would say that wouldn't they.

Probably the best of an ordinary bunch, given the limited availability in 14". My non-MX5 project car has 14" wheels & tyres, & they aren't easily changed, so will stick with 14", but I'm uninspired by what's available.

You're asking us to nominate the best of a bad bunch. None of them are sports tyres really. I'd just accept fate and buy a set of 15s and whack some Bridgestone RE003s on them.

Otherwise I think the Bridgestone T001s is the best choice in 14s. Kmart stock them too. You may get a better price there.

FWIW I'd avoid anything with the words eco, energy, green or something similar in the name. All of these thing say hard, nasty, gripless things that should never be allowed anywhere a sports car.

PS. There should be a federal law against Michelin Energy.

Ah you know what I meant. They are the ‘performance’ ones within a dismal selection...

I’m not yet ready for 15”.

I ended up with the TE001. So far happy with them. Given that the vehicle has stock suspension that is getting tired due to age and km they seem a good match.

I've since become aware of three additional offerings in this size:

Nankang RX-611 Crossroader < http://nankangtyres.com.au/tyre/xr-611/ >
Nankang RX-615 Remex < http://nankangtyres.com.au/tyre/rx-615/ >
GT Radial Champiro VP1

Are these being made with current tyre technology ? I've read they are a blocky tire and not that good. Tyre tech has come a long way. Good if your doing a concourse resto I suppose.

Reckon deep pockets will be required for the original MX5 Bridgestone remake, but also a good point about tyre tech having moved on as someone posted pics not long ago of the 'quaint' original MX5 Bridgestone. Here's a pic: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=75233&p=916312&hilit=bridgestone#p916312

I've had all brands of tyres on my MX5 NA 1.8 with the original 14" wheels over a period of 12 years.
I've been fortunate to obtain my tyres for around $25-$30 ea, not brand new (usually 95-99% Tread) but very close to new, trade in tyres from clients purchasing new tyres.
I've had some good tyres some were so bad I replaced with in a couple of days.
A few months back a set of Pirelli P1 185xR14 were traded, these I fitted to my NA, best tyre I've had on this car, better handling, great in the rain (have had a few spins on round-a-bouts in heavy rain).
Most I've spent for tyres on this car, my shopping trolley is $100-&120 a set.

Sadly Pirelli don’t seem to do the P1 anymore in 185/60R14 and now only offer the Cinturato P6 in this size.
