Re Front struts
You have a rattle in the front suspension....and you take the car to a well known MX5 repairer and get the front struts replaced...but its still there....you take it back and it gets fixed...no rattle
You then put it in 12 months(5000klm) later for a service saying that a slight rattle has returned....but when you pick it up its 10 times worse...but you are told they don't know what it is and suggest you to take it to a specialist suspension shop....you do so and they tell you the nut at the top of the shockie is stripped and it has a locking washer under the nut. Is it reasonable to think that someone stripped it during installation and when you complained they fixed it with adding a locking washer as a spacer....and as it had developed a slight rattle again....they stripped it completely trying to tighten it? or could the nut stripped by itself???

Sounds spot on to me.... nut would of been left loose from day 1, wouldn't take long to pull thread with the hammering of shock. When it went back problem would of been found but only a few threads would of been left to tighten, so I would say a lock washer was added for piece of mind.... but the few threads or less after washer was added wasn't enough to do the job.... seen it heaps

I've had the top threads stripped twice on KYB shocks, once on the MX5 and once on the Ute. Both times by good workshops. The metal in the centre shaft of KYBs is very soft. Hence it's very easy to strip the top thread. You may be able to save it with a second nut on top or, worst case, by welding the nut on.

This was the reason why I went back to doing all my own work.

I think I paid a fair price to have it done properly
Everyone makes mistakes....but I don't like the fact they tried to hide it. Have spent $3000+ with them in last 18 months....but won't be going back to these MX5 experts!!
Getting it replaced at my cost by a suspension expert...and putting it down to "sh/t happens" ;)

I has KYB AGX on my NA and was very pleased with them, however, the threaded section is very soft.
Cheers
