nb rear lower control arm query

Postby 3gress » Thu Mar 30, 2017 7:58 am

I have finally gotten around to rebuilding the later nb subframes to retrofit into my '90 NA6.
First of all thankyou to the numerous forum members who have helped me acumulate the necessary pieces for the swap, and miataroadster for supplying the delrin steering rack bushes, alignment bolts and all the odd ball joints and tie rod ends etc expediently.
Whilst removing the original NB bushes i found i had let the rear subframe sit a little too long out in the salt air. The lower rear control arms have corroded so much so that the lower outer bush casings crumbled into nothing when attemping to remove the oem bushings.
I have a number of spare pairs of NA6 lower rear control arms and when placed side by side with the later NB control arms the only discernable difference is the swaybar link mounts are a double sheer design on the early design and a beefier single sheer mount on the latter type.
Can i use the earlier type control arm on the rear nb subframe, and is there any geometric difference i am not aware of?
Thanks guys. :DIY:

Thanks for the link mate. I didn't have to read down the column too far to find the info needed.
Searching previously just resulted in a heap of conflicting information and distraction when stumbling across different forum battles about exactly what was changed. A few tangents taken on zerk fittings and the like also. Most subjects tended to centre on the front control arm differences/benefits but made little mention of the rear. I'd assumed with aftermarket end links i could make it work though I have read that the NB gained a slightly increased track width and wanted to make sure it was the subframe that was altered to avoid binding issues by mixing the arms about.
