I feel like i have to push the brake pedal all the way and when I do, it feels like its a chore for the car to come to a stop.
I dont think this is normal.
What could be the problem and what can I do to fix this. Thanks in advance.
I have not replaced the brake pads or brake fluid yet. Is this a good place to start?
Just bought a used MX5, brakes seem weak. (NB8A)

What car did you drive before this? Have you dríven an mx5 before?
The older cars need a bit of brake effort as they aren't overly assisted like modern cars.
It's hard to say what is normal over the internet, though. If you're unsure of the braking system condition new pads and fluid is good insurance.

If by "all the way" you mean that it feels like the pedal is reaching the floor, first step would be to flush the brake system and put in new fluid.

Sounds like a good flush needed.

As above check condition of all brake components, discs and pads look for scoring on discs and lack of meat on the pads. Discs can be skimmed if badly scored or use a soft pad on a grinder [URL]Replacement Brake Discs
Been doing this to all my discs, got rid of most of the corrosion and have a good surface. Most people will tell you that standard discs and genuine pads are good I am currently running Mintex.

Take your time on the first one, then when you get used to it, it's easy and very satisfying
