Is there an Australian Wilwood dealer?

Postby davekmoore » Tue Dec 15, 2015 7:52 pm

'Cos it would be nice to avoid paying freight from USA when I need pads and/or rotors.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Even with the crappy exchange rate it's still cheaper to import these :(

My rotors lasted about 5 minutes. So we should do a bulk buy.

With your times I reckon you don't use brakes. At all. So want you need is a bulk refund.

Aren't the rotors in the kit made by DBA here in Australia?

...nevermind, it's STILL probably cheaper to import the rotors from the US than buying locally

So you're saying local retailers don't mark-up their prices for their import shipping cost?
Yes, that would be nice.

I get mine from Summit... costs a bit in shipping though.

Last rotor replacement I spent a while online and on the phone ringing around Wilwood stockist in AUS to order some rotors. The parts I was looking at are $32US per rotor from Summit Racing. Locally the cheapest price I could find was $90 per rotor. I ended up ordering from Summit Racing as I need some other parts anyway. Shipping was $45 US.

After that experience I almost tried registering to be a reseller through Wilwood. If people are keen I could look into it further but I doubt the volume would be worth it unless your ordering 10 rotors a month. It seems crazy how inflated the local prices are on rotors...

I know this is just going in another direction, but depending on which kit you have, PFC might make a rotor for it, and it might last a bit longer... These are the rotors I'll be trying next, after the 2 sets of wilwood fronts I have die.

This is after only 10-15 minutes of driving, or about 20-30 seconds of braking. They are cracked and warped. Very disappointing. I won't be buying any replacements if it is going to do the same thing.
I was wondering if there is a thicker rotor that will bolt on. Then I could space the caliper. Is the hat a generic size??

Is that the 11" rotor or the 11.75" rotor?

I've had no issues with my 11.75" rotors but I did torque up the bolts higher than the Wilwood specs as per Emilio from 949 Racing's recommendations. I believe this helps stop any cracking.

Also, here is a list of Australian resellers for Wilwood:

Eagle Auto Parts (VIC) 03 8710 3000
VPW (VIC) 03 8405 9200
Rocket Industries (NSW) 02 8825 1900
High Performance World (NSW) 02 9630 2333
Ian Boettcher Racing (QLD) 07 3816 1099

There is far more choice of rotor in the 11.75" sizing and for some reason, probably due to volume they are far cheaper than the 11" rotors.

The cheaper straight vane rotors are made out of a lower grade material, so you can spend a bit more on the directional vane rotors and they will last longer due to the better cooling and quality alloy.

If it's the 11.75" rotor size, then the hat bolt pattern will be 8 x 7".
Rotor choice is:
160-0471 $33US cheapy (what I run)
160-12283 / 160-12284 36 vane directional rotors $109US which are made from a higher grade Spec 37 Iron. Apparently they last 3 times longer, a combination of better cooling and the material.

If it's the 11" rotor size, then the hat bolt patter is 6 x 6.5" or something like that?
Rotor choice is:
160-5840 $90 cheapy
949Racing Directional for $90US

I'm not sure if the Directional from 949 is a higher grade or not.

Regardless of the rotor material they shouldn't be cracking.

For the Willwood Dynalite calipers the cheapest place I have found for suitable brake pads is http://www.hawkpadsdirect.com

For the one shipping price you can fit up to 4 sets of pads. Only problem is they can take a few weeks to arrive.
