Space saver wheel for NC, success !

Postby Stevem » Fri Jul 17, 2015 4:43 pm

Hi everyone,

I have been searching the forums about which space savers will fit in the boot and on the hubs of my NC2, and other than the rare RX8 spare the info I have found is a bit vague. This week I took a punt and bought a 17" space saver from a 2008 Mazda 3, and it fits in the boot easily and fits both the front and back wheels of my MX5 perfectly. Plenty of clearance for the brake calipers and the correct offset for the wheel arches.

Formaz Parts Plus in Sydney were very helpful and had one in stock for $85. I realise that a flat full size wheel won't fit in the boot with the lid closed, but an occy strap will sort that out. For local trips I will rely on the Mazda fix it kit, but for long road trips the spare will be good insurance against being stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Don't use the goop in the Mazda kit. Get a tubeless repair kit from Supercheap and you won't ruin the tyre.
